An American transsexual. will be on Oprah today, whom is going to have a baby in 3 months, whom is in a relationship with another women.

She may well of had her body made to look like a man, but yet is still able to have a baby, and is about to do so!

So to One, this person is still a women, but now with the illusion of looking like a male. Men do not have babies women do.

This is nothing more than confirmation to me. That you may well be able to have a sex change. But.........You are still what you are born.

I feel so sorry for this poor child to be. They may well be able to protect this child. But......this will only be until hi/she goes to school.

What they are doing is very selfish. Because they are putting their agenda, before this life to be.

Do we really need 4 separate threads in the same forum about this guy having a baby?

One, the kid will have two loving parents. She will be fine. Mommy and mommy stand to rake in the dough from all this publicity. Baby is not going to be goin to some second rate learning institution, probably some hoitie toitie prep school for kids with famous parents. Besides, by then, the fathers stomach will have gone away. The mother and father will look like just that.

Pat, who / whom. Learn when to use each word. They are not interchangeable.

Oh yes, and by the way Pat, you are an idiot.

    Do you have a problem?
Especially at a time like this, us queer boys should stick together. A hairy, sexy man with child is about as queer as it gets and I for one, will not abandon a brother in need.

I dunno...I'm trying, but having a difficult time wrapping my mind around this one. I agree that the man/woman has a right to have a child if she/he wants, but I'm more concerned about the tormenting the child will go through as it grows up being the first with all the publicity and all. Regardless, as much as this person wants to say she is a MAN, the bottomline is that she's really just a woman in some really ellaborate disguising. Men don't give birth, women do. She can cut her hair, have her breasts removed, overload on testosterone, and even grow a penis, but at the end of the day SHE is still pregnant...cuz "Real Men" just don't get pregnant.

I also have a hard time with their reasoning for going to PEOPLE magazine and on OPRAH. Cuz they wanted to tell the story THEIR way? No, I think it was a shameless ploy for publicity, and probably money. Not that this is such a bad thing, or even all that different than anyone else taking their story to PEOPLE or going on OPRAH...but call it what it is.

And real men don't take it up the ass, penis fits vagina, an asshole isn't there to put things in, blah, blah, blah. Time to move on from such small thinking.

All I really meant is that one can make as many "cosmetic" changes as they want, but at the end of the day you are basically born one way or the other -- male or female. -- regardless of how many changes you may have made after that. She can say she's a MAN all she wants, but that doesn't make it true. She is, after all, pregnant.

I just hope a remake of Aliens never includes the line "get away from her you sonofabitch".

From another thread here on this....
    RunintheCity said

This episode speaks so greatly for the need in larger society for clarity on issues of gender, gender expression, etc. Biologically, this guy is cross gender. A transexual who has not undergone a complete gender reassignment. He gender identifies as a man. Which is based on how he see himself/feels inside emotionally and spiritually, not based on his biologically defined parts, which as this point in his life are somewhat blurred. The discomfort many feel with him, as so terribly expressed on MSNBC's morning show today, demonstrates a huge lapse in education on these issues.

We are socialized from birth to express our gender identity based on our physical gender. But the 2 are separate. One (gender) is biologically determined - though it can clearly be chemically and surgically altered - while the other (gender identity) is psychologically determined by a whole host of factors and influences. Other cultures, such as in India, do not limit even the genders to the base 2 of male and female. And clearly, variances in gender expression have been around 'since the Devil discovered shoes.' (Sorry, old country expression.)

To understand this man, his pregnancy, and his relationship with his partner, we have to unlearn some heavily ingrained cultural thought.

I'm not so sure it's "heavily ingrained cultural thought" as it is just plain common sense "biological thought". This woman is free to do what ever she wants with her body, and regardless of the implications it will certainly have for her child psycholigically (and we don't know yet if there will be physical implications as well), she has chosen to go down this road. That, however, does not make it any less bizarre. I watched the whole OPRAH show, and couldn't help but feel that, in spite of how much they tried to justify this in their own minds and to the world, that this whole thing was more than just a little hard to swallow. Call me an uptight Oklahoma born and bred conservative, but I just found it creepy. Almost ROSEMARY'S BABY-ish.

All these arguments, right or worng, moral or immoral, psychological impnacts, etc. have been used at one time or another to justify hatred aimed at gay men and women in general, as well as their rights to have children.

Ok, so you may be an uptight Oklahoma conservative, that's fine. But it doens't mean you can't, or shouldn't, open your mind to other possibilities and ways of being.

Yes it's a bizarre situation, but that's only because this is the first time we've seen something like this. But that doesn't mean it's 'right' or 'wrong'.

The Oprah show only sratches the surface of these peoples lives, personalities, dreams, and whatnot. These two people may turn out to be model parents with one of the most well-adjusted, open-minded, free-thinking child that affects change in popular thinking. But, if we allowed the bizarreness or 'wrongness' of this situation to determine whether or not they're allowed to have child, we would never know, and we as a society would be worse off for it.
