    Anybody read gay fiction?

I was reading The Lincoln Lawyer and started to wonder if there were any books with gay leading characters, as all the books I have read had straight leading characters.

After searching Amazon for highly rated gay fiction books I ended up buying Top Men and Two In Two Out. Both were very quick reads and some hot scenes but both were closer to porn vs suspense thriller. Although I didn't mind the hot sex scenes.icon_eek.gificon_redface.gif

I also bought Shades of Gray which it sounds more of a suspense novel vs porn.

    P.A Brown and
    all of Michael Thomas Ford's
Great reads; just enough sex to keep you turning the page.

Sometimes I read what I refer to as 'dick lit' (the gay equivalent of 'chick lit') - entertaining reads that are fairly quick to get through but not porn.

    Michael Thomas Ford
    Timothy James Beck
    Bart Yates
    Dave Benbow
Ben Tyler (tends to have more sex)
    Andy Schell
Greg Herrin's Chanse MacLeod mysteries are fun.

Hero by Perry Moore is a great read.

What self-respecting gay man would want to read about di'cklit?

Good, light summer reading from my favorite, Robert Rodi. I've read them all:

    Fag Hag
What They Did to Princess Paragon
    Closet Case
    Drag Queen
    Kept Boy
    Bitch Goddess
    When You Were Me

nick alexander is a really good author--- has a great series of gay lit books 5 volumes-- sort of 'tales of the city' esque, but set in the uk.

It's sometimes lumped in with young adult fiction, because the protagonist is a gay teen, but my friend Josh Aterovis has published an award-winning series of mystery novels...no porn at all in them. :-)

Look for him on Amazon, Facebook, or www.joshaterovis.com

My housemate edits and writes for a gay book review blog called Out In Print: Queer Book Reviews. (http://blog.outinprint.net). They post reviews on new queer (mostly gay) books a few times a week--mostly fiction, but occasionally non-fiction and poetry. Great way to keep up on what is new in gay lit. I many of us have the same experience in the various media--too little that addresses our gay experience as something worth exploring, understanding. You might want to check out the site--scan through the archives and see what's happening in gay fiction. Amazon carries a lot, but not everything!

So far the best gay fiction I've read is City of Night by John Rechy. A pseudo memoir of a hustler traveling from new york to LA to New Orleans and all over. Its pretty amazingly written.
Also Giovanni's Room is one of my favorite books ever written.

RJ is a good source of gay fiction--the profiles and forum threads in particular.
