I think their wrong. If some parents don't want to circumcise their sons, so be it. But don't tell other parents how they should go about this. I'm glad I'm circumcised, not because I think its better, but just fine with what I have. If I'm missing out on any feeling that's fine I have more than enough. Do you think it's right to make circumcision illegal?

If you are referring to a city in California...the name is SAN FRANCISCO.

Yet you knew what I meant.

I'm against infant mutilation/torture, so i'm all for it. An adult should be able to get circumcised if he wants to though.

I don't understand. Have all the actual problems of San Francisco been solved?

Is this a news site like theonion.com is a news site?

How the heck can a city dictate what procedures a hospital can perform. Aren't they state regulated etc etc.

On topic anyways, I wish I had the choice to be circumsized or not.

I think I would have liked having all the extra foreskin. Idk if it's normal or not but my skin's waay too tight when I have an erection.

Why, why, yes, I think they have.
    LOL.

When I was walking into the Safeway, I was accosted by one of the guys wanting me to sign his petition to get it on the ballot.
I just cracked up laughing and kept on walking.
I love my city, but San Francisco is notorious for always having a laundry list of propositions for every cause imaginable, on the ballot.

I expect that I'll be voting, "No" on this one, even though I'm uncut, myself.

No... it's not normal... you have what's called a 'high and tight circumcision-' meaning that too much skin was cut off.
Not much you can do though... talk to a urologist and see if it can be correct through 'foreskin restoration' and remodeling. icon_smile.gif

Uh, yes? Any way you slice it(no pun intended) circumcision is unnecessary surgery on an infant.

I am the defiant Portlander, and I'm gonna go ahead and just call it "San Fran".

    Portland > San Fran

Also, I oppose this legislation. I was circumcised and I'm glad they did it when I was too young to remember that ever having been done to me. I don't consider it mutilation. It is the choice of the parents, and there are health implications regarding whether to do it or not. There are health advantages and risks for both uncircumcised and circumcised men which ultimately weigh out equally, so it really does just come down to choice.

yeah I've been kind of excited about the regenerating my own foreskin.

Idk if anyone's heard of www.foregen.org

The idea is that they would open the scar from your circumcision and use your own stem cells to regenerate your own foreskin. I thought it would be cool to get eventually.

I would venture to guess that most, if not all, of the people supporting this ban on circumcision are also pro-choice (i.e. they would adamantly oppose a ban on abortion). That strikes me as somewhat hypocritical.

Veteran city hall observer Alex Clemens says San Francisco has a long tradition of putting unusual issues on the ballot.

"We voted to find out whether a puppet could join a cop on his rounds. We voted whether or not we should name a sewage treatment plant after a former president. This is kind of par for the course," he says.

For the backers of the ban, this is no laughing matter. If their proposed measure is approved by voters, violators, including doctors, could face a fine up to $1,000 and a year in jail.

Yep. The 'Nanny State' has solved all the budgetary issues and with 100% employment and nobody homless, now moves on to less weighty matters.icon_question.gif

No matter what your personal feelings in cut-VS-uncut...they are just that. Personal!
Something the Lefties just can not grasp.

Another instance of not minding your own damn business...icon_rolleyes.gif

PS: I'd say the same thing if a nitwit Republican proposed it!

i think it's interesting that female circumcision is referred to as "female genital mutilation" but male circumcision is referred to as "what's the big deal".

personally i think the decision should be left to the adult/adolescent male who is getting his foreskin chopped off not the parents.

Slightly embarassing to think of my state and the issues we have like balancing budgets and such and this kind of garbage on the ballots.

    Talk about mis-focused energy!

I acknowledge that circumcision is sometimes medically necessary. However, outside of medical necessity with infants, it is the only ELECTIVE surgery that is done without the pt's consent. On that basis alone I object to it. How awful is it that American baby boys are told from birth that something is wrong with them and it should be fixed.

Furthermore, I'm from the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" school of thought. Most circumcision in the US is done out of "tradition" (ie. his dad had it done, and so did his grandad) and/or misconceptions of hygiene (ie. uncut penises are smelly). It's ironic that in the US, a country that tries to advertise itself as progressive, a medically altered penis is considered "normal".

heybreaux saidI don't think they can do this.
What about people who are Jewish? Did they even think of that?

You cannot make a law that excludes this practice when Brit Milah (Bris) is a common religious practice. Therefore, this issue, no matter what you believe for yourself does not belong in the legal system. WTF!!

Gawker should know better than to post this crap, but then again all they do is post to get you excited and in an uproar so that you get your daily adrenaline rush by coming back everyday.

Not sure, but I think it just keeps hospitals from doing it. I'm sure it doesn't make it illegal for a mohel to do it.
