Gym doesn't have an erg. Any substitutes?

I joined a gym a month and a half back and realized it didn't have a basic rowing machine. I just quit my last gym because it lacked several essential equipment, so I'm not jumping to gun to find another gym.

Is there any other exercise I can do to substitute for an erg. I'm working on the Strong and Lean workout, which has you use the machine 1-2X per week. Thanks.

Edit: That is a reverse pullup. It can be done on the bench press or smith machine. That is what I do since I have no row machine at home.

You can simulate a rowing machine with bands if their available.

i don't know of any other cardio machine quite like the erg.
i would check out a local university, if there is one around. hopefully they have several.
the gym i have now only has 1, and the last couple gyms i've been a member of have had 0. i don't think it's a common machine, + they're expensive, + i don't think people know how to use them right and i've gotten the excuse that they break easily - esp the digital/display unit. at least that's what my last gym told me.

You could look for a rowing club if really want to get that exercise.

Otherwise check out other gyms. You're in LA so there are plenty of gyms around. Ballys doesn't have an erg, and I think LA Fitness doesn't either, but pretty much every other gym will have an erg.

Otherwise you're looking for a full-body cardio workout. Some gyms have a rock climbing machine, which could be a full-body workout.
An elliptical or climber with full motion might be the next best bet. Or else go swimming.
