I'm not a photoshop expert by any stretch of the imagination, but it does appear that someone forgot to flatten the image before it was released.

Again, if the (Bush) Republican gov't was theoretically so astronomically, catastrophically, inconceivably incompetent as to let Obama run and subsequently win the election in 08, why is anyone still a Republican? And why would anyone vote the party in to address the economy etc if the party, when in power, was so supposedly inept?

This is like watching an angry dog chasing his tail, only find that when he catches it and bites hard.....

    I don't know.

The back and forth comments under this one are interesting.

I can use photoshop or let's say that I struggle with it because I don't use it enough, but in my business (commercial real estate) we scan and email a shit load of old documents such as 100 yr old deeds, surveys, etc. I've never tried this until now, but no I'm not getting layers. Very interesting.

Some people just can't say, "Sorry, I was wrong." Some people are just idiots. There seems to be a significant overlap here.

It's no surprise that conspiracy theorists will be swirling around this birth certificate, probably until the end of time. Who cares? There are also people out there who still think Elvis is alive, or that there was another gunman in the Kennedy assassination. That said, it's not fair to equate these nutjobs with the whole Republican party. Viable Republican candidates (and I don't put Donald Trump in that category) are not running around questioning Obama's birth, or his birth certificate.

So let's see if I’ve got this right - the OP is racist because the OP posted this controversy, but clearly stated that he is no Photoshop expert and is in not position to form an opinion. Yet the OP posted plenty of both sides of this right here at this link if you look down to the comments http://bryankeithnixon.com/?p=103 from folks who know way more than I do about illustrator and Photoshop, but yet your conclusion is that the OP is a racist. Do I have you right on this one? Seriously???icon_rolleyes.gif

I guess we'll see if Trump is really serious or not by whether he leaves this alone or starts down this path. If he's serious, he'll leave this alone.

However, I bet had RJ been around back around 2001 or 2002 there would have been more than a few 9-11 conspiracy theorists right here.

Gah. I'd never thought that we'd end up debating the technicalities of Adobe Illustrator [which is apparently what made the "layers"], but there we are.

In any case, some helpful RIGHT WING people have debunked this:

Many of us said this on RJ just yesterday, that it was only a matter of time before the Obama haters declared this document a fake. Do you think they would have embraced it, and made themselves look foolish for their past false claims? Or let go of what they think is a great issue for them?

They were laying the groundwork by first asking suspicious questions about why the President took so long to release "his" birth certificate. Ignoring the fact that it isn't his, but the State of Hawaii's archival copy, which they don't release to individuals. And Hawaii resisted release (conveniently) under the previous Republican Administration. It took a change in their governor's mansion to a Democrat for Obama to try again, and succeed.

The birth certificate that IS Obama's, the one the State issues to everyone, was indeed released 2 years ago. But that wasn't good enough for the Birthers, who stated that Obama was refusing to "release" this other copy. Over which he had no control, and it took an exception to policy by a presumably more favorable State Administration to make it happen.

I remember equivalent lunacy from the John Birch Society in the 1950s and early 60s, another wacko ultra-conservative right-wing group. It was full of conspiracy theories, too, about Commies poisoning our water supply (for which they also had "evidence"), and anyone who didn't agree with them was a secret enemy agent that had infiltrated the US. Nowadays our umbrella term for these kinds of mental cases who find a conspiracy under every bed the "tin foil hat contingent."
