Lots of possibilities, and this should be followed here to see what is determined by investigators. It could just have been an ordinary robbery, of a household where the criminal(s) perhaps knew an occupant was disabled & vulnerable, having nothing to do with their being gay.

Or it could be a gay hate crime. Or an ill-advised hook-up with a psycho, or gay criminal. We've had a few of those here in south Florida, though usually involving a single gay resident (we've got one still being investigated that does involve the homicide of a gay couple in their home).

I hope this is resolved quickly, so that justice is served and dangerous people are removed from society. But also to end speculation by straights that can be hostile to the gay community, and supportive of harmful gay stereotypes.

I actually had to read that article because I know of a gay couple in Dallas and that'd just be horrible.

Let's hope that their sexuality had nothing to do with it.
TX is definitely big on hating the gays, but Dallas is a pretty tolerant town.
We'll have to wait and see.

A couple paragraphs from the article saidNeighbors told Dallas Morning News that the younger man was the caretaker for the disabled man, but police said it appeared that they were in a relationship.

Police said a vehicle belonging to one of the victims was missing, and that they are searching for whoever has possession of it.
Only speculation here, but a plausible explanation is that the man's partner killed him and his caretaker, and fled in the caretaker's vehicle.

I have an eerie feel that's what the investigation will find.

But regardless of the outcome, it's really sad. icon_sad.gif

That's too bad. It wasn't necessarily a hate crime, but a crime of opportunity.

Why because it is a republican state?

Because sodomy laws are still part of the penal code and the state's republican party (which basically controls the state) advocates active discrimination statutes toward gays

TX is big on hating the gays because a lot of people who hate gays live in TX.
They don't hate the gays because they vote Republican.
They vote Republican (partly) because they hate the gays.
They know that the Repub party opposes equal rights for gays.

Police told Dallas media that the two men were murdered to cover up a crime, that it was not being investigated as a hate crime, and that the motive is unknown.

    This sounds contradictory
If the police know that they were murdered to cover up a crime .... and therefore not a hate crime
How is it that the motive is unknown... ? icon_neutral.gif
