Is it just me or do they serve as more of an annoyance? I get their purpose is for modesty and support, but I have on more then one occasion almost tripped when putting my trunks on and have in the past cut them out for comfort purposes. If I need modesty and support I just wear a swim jock under my shorts.

You're not the only one who has tripped when putting them on! I usually wear board shorts with my underwear (or Speedo) on for support. It's easier and more comfortable.

I hate the liners as they irritate my penis head.

I wear a speedo underneath soccer shorts when I'm in the water to make my boys get the support that I want AND avoid the skin burn from the silly annoying liners.

Do you guys really find the liners that annoying?
I don't care for them. But I've never cut one out.
I live by the beach so I'm literally at the beach daily. Sometimes I wear boardshorts with nothing under if I'm going to swim or just lay about, or if I'm going for a walk boardshorts and speedos/aussiebums or if I'm just laying about on my deck I just wear speedos. Come to think of it the ones without liners are more comfortable (N2N and turbos) but I've never thought of cuttingthem out. What happens when you cut them out? Are they more comfortable? More revealing?
    Anyone got photos?

doesn't cutting them out ruin them or at least make them fall apart faster?

I always cut out the liner, too, provided I find roomy-enough trunks that I can do that, or that ideally don't have a liner. They weren't provided in trunks when I was younger -- you were expected to wear a swim jock, otherwise your stuff might pop out from one of the short legs those suits had, especially when you sat down. I actually saw that happen on the beach a few times to guys who neglected that extra item under their trunks.

But the longer legs of todays trunks have eliminated the possibility of that wardrobe malfunction, so I find the liner unnecessary, and uncomfortable. Actually I often find the suit itself unnecessary, since I prefer nude beaches, and pools at private gay homes or at gay guest houses. But at public beaches or mixed pool parties I have to keep some trunks handy.
