Okay, so what do you guys think of Lady Gaga? For me I really liked The Fame, then by the time she released The Fame Monster I was literally obsessed. However, she started transitioning into a more darker gothic side. But it still worked. And the songs were so great! However. I knew soon as I saw artwork for Born this way something was off. then she released the song, it had good meaning but the song is terrible! Then she released the album cover work, its absolutely hideous!!!!!! Then she released Judas and its a blatant rip off Bad romance and madonna and sounds like crap with annoying beats everywhere and stupid lyrics, just like born this way was a rip off. I'm so confused. I'm blaming Perez Hilton. He's a total ass kisser. But people admired her for her unique futuristic sound. And her fashion. But now shes just coming off as cheap n a copycat. How can someone so amazing become so... Well, i cant even relate to anything she does now. It's too werid, and with all the Bible references n stuff. It's not fun, it's creepy. Come back Old Gaga? This whole "I'm a God" thing is getting old n werid!

    I like your candor.

I never liked her music except for Alejandro. Her videos are creative and she is an artist in the sense the most people in the top 40 category are not. So I respect her for that. She can come out with as much shit as she likes as long as she keeps expressing herself and has control over her music.

Because she used a similar phrase from "Bad Romance", "Judas" is a rip off?

Have you ever listened to early Beatles?

As far as the fashion and such goes... I've always loved Grace Jones. Glad someone's toeing the same lines she did in the day.

That's the problem with major record labels. No artist has control over their music anymore.

    Very true.

Lady Gaga is very talented, and there's no doubt about it. She can play piano, and sing live better than a lot of Top40 artists. I'm also not liking the sound of these two songs.I've listened to "Born This Way" about 50 or so times. Usually by the 20th listen the song grows on me and it's on my iPod. This one still isn't.

She doesn't have an original bne in her body.

Almost every song she does is a rip off of someone who has done it before her. She rips off madonna's style, the meat dress was a rip off (there was one on display in the National Gallery in ttawa years befre), the first time I heard Alejandro I thought it was Ace of Base back with a new song.

She's terrible, but smart. She's making her money and in a few years will fase away. She kinda reminds me of Gwen Stefani a bit, she was big and 'different', now shes just there.

Every Artist has bad songs. So I don't see any validation in your view.
Plus you obviously have no clue what-so-ever what the fuck Goth looks like if you think Lady Gaga has taken to it. Get your shit right before you start labeling something... utter ignorance on your part only makes you look dumber than we thought before you spoke.

She really needs to reinvent herself as an artist if she wants to continue down that road and ditch RedOne and Perez like she ditched Space Cowboy.

I think we need a few months Gaga-free.

The Fame I really liked. The Fame Monster was pushing it: aside from the songs that became singles, the other new tracks were filler. I still haven't even bothered to download Born This Way.

She ran the risk of over-exposing herself too quickly...and her reinventions EVERY SONG (not every album, like Madonna), made her fans insatiable. Now, her fans turn away because one dang song isn't to their liking (which is pretty snippy if you ask me).

In an internet age, she can seem even more over-exposed. You have those that see her and loathe her / trash her (unfairly, and usually with no basis), and then the 'fans' who are quick to judge her.

I think the Madonna comparisons are fair. But Madonna operated in the 80's/90's as the music video was taking off. She used that medium to 'reinvent' herself from album-to-album, tour-to-tour, until she herself suffered overexposure right around 1992 with the Sex/Body Of Evidence/Erotica backlash. I think what Lady Gaga is seeing now is similar to that - she's talented, her music is still great (I actually really like Judas), but her image / outfits / exposure are off. (Erotica is a brilliant Madonna album if you forget one or two poor videos and her goofy sexual interviews and image around that time).

So, she has set the bar for herself by one-upping her last live performance with a shocking or quirky creation immediately following it, leaving folks saying "what will Lady Gaga do next?". She delivers Judas, for example, which doesn't differentiate itself enough from Bad Romance for fans to bother with it, and her less-than-subtle religious elements make Madonna's Like A Prayer look like an even bigger, clever masterpiece.

I'm not a Lady Gaga fan, but not once have a trashed her; She is talented. I'm observing the above with her obsessive fans (and her scathing critics), and I honestly don't see the staying power, which is a real shame. I think a break from the exposure (tours, videos, every major music show, etc) is needed, but the albums coming so that is a while off. We'll see what she does.

so probably totally just a rumor, but I was told yesterday that she has to have unique costumes as part of her contract, due to the record label thinking shes not attractve and that there using smoke and mirrors so the fans dont notice

There's nothing about her that I find interesting. I just find her music to be really disingenuous. I dont think that sampling disco and top 40 from the 80's makes you an icon but it does get viacom and Clear Channel to play your music over and over and over until people have no choice but to listen to it.

    I LOVE Judas.

P.S. don't forget she said she would NEVER lip sync and bashed "blonde bitches" that lip sync...when she herself lip syncs (check out "Judas" performance on Ellen).

I just checked it out. Seems live with a backing track to me, not a true lip-synch. (Note the out of synch vocals at the start and the first verse - both sound live). She even says 'c'mon Ellen!' - so...what did you mean?

Some of the over-exposure is of her own doing. Her Monster Ball tour has lasted almost as long as Cher's farewell tour. I'm sure there's an incredible amount of pressure to continually top the last appearance.

This is the same kind of buzz Madonna created early in her career. The parallels are amazing, but Gaga is by far the more talented singer of the two. I don't think anything she put out would live up to the hype she in some ways helped create.

okay dude, considering that its the year 2011, its pretty hard for ANYONe to do anything TOTALLY original. She doesnt copy those things, they are just classic examples of innovation in music. Gaga does what she wants the way she wants it. Purposely copying another person would contradict everything she stands for. Madonna doesnt seem to have a problem with a song sounding "similar" it and neither should you.
As for Ace of Base, I was enthralled that she would bring back their sound. AoB is totally dead and its free ground.

One of the things that makes me truly angry is when gays criticize her and insult her for supporting the gay community. Not that anyone of name here has, but I see it all over the place and it makes me sick. She has the rising generation by the balls and you cant be grateful that shes dragging them in your favor? How petty.

She said she would never lip sync. She did it right there, while she did sing parts of the song live.

Another example at her concert: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGtBRFIrIBg

She shouldn't make snarky remarks about other pop stars and get her head way too big when she does what they do also.

I don't think anyone in the industry classifies using a backing track as lip-synching when the mic is fully turned on.

This is vastly different from a Britney performance. I think Gaga is free to criticize artists that perform 'live' (and don't). The Britney Circus tour was a joke - who wants to see a singer dance for 2 hours?
