I am posting and asking for your participation(s). Guys, do you have any recommendations for additional features? It can be the forum itself, or the member profile systems. At the end if we can reach some sort of overwhelming consensus with enough participations, I might send this thread to RJ admin as a formal request. So keep your comments clean folks, and try not to derail. +1s are highly appreciated, since this shows how many people like the proposed idea. Thanks.

OK I'll start. I would like to see these features:

    1. Thumbs up / down button and counter right next to each individual post. This will provide some sort of feedback to the author of the post. So the next time he will be more careful of what he says.

    2. Some sort of internal address block for the same pictures / video that are duplicates. There was a public service announcement recently about this, but I think it'd be easier if RJ does it from a feature-end. Plus I don't think all forumers read that particular thread judging from the traffic.

That's it for me now. Please guys, let's brainstorm!!!! Have fun.

LOL omg I want number 1 so bad. I wanna see how many thumbs down I get when I insult people.

Also yes, I have even mentioned to individual people "please don't quote so many goddamn pics" and they still do it. icon_neutral.gif
but they have to do it in some way that makes sense, because sometimes in the right context using a picture twice can be good humour.

+1 to both. MANY threads I've wanted to block, and I think this ability would reduce the attention-seeking drama because it would reduce the audience size.

-1 to removing the ability to ignore posters. I haven't been here long but I've already identified several people who simply have nothing worth reading as far as I'm concerned and I like not seeing their posts show up. Yes, some get quoted, so one can see what they did write, but invariably it only bolsters my decision to ignore. Again, audience reduction goes a long way.

I'd like to add the following request:
at a minimum, please get rid of the "OR's" in profile search so that we can search for guys in an area AND for a string of words. It would make hooking up with activity partners much easier, IMO.

Even better, implement an advanced search function that searches within a certain radius of a given city (not just the ones you list as your home base cities).

southbeach1500 saidRemoval of the ability to "Ignore his posts"

I find some RJ members use this in a very cowardly way. They'll post an attack on an RJ member in the forum and then when the attacked RJ member goes to respond with a follow-up post, the attacker won't see the response.

If you're gonna participate in a forum discussion, you should see the ENTIRE discussion.

Yes many do use the ignore button, in a cowardice manner. They insist on having a voice, yet want to repress others from the same right. Attack then hide.

    Atrollsayswhat.

No. Disagree completely. I have a few people on Ignore because they're very negative and I just don't want to see their negativity spewed all over the forums.

How does ignoring someone else affect anyone else or repress anyone else's ability to express himself.

Just because someone might have you on ignore, doesn't mean no one else can see your posts either. Sometimes this is unfortunate.

    kill-button.jpg

    "Kill" button.
To kill all posts, messages, etc. from a particular profile.

And, to send a signal through the interwebz to cause an OP's computer to send a 220v bolt through heart and brain until cooked dead.

Another suggestion: consolidate some of the sports forums. For example, skiing and snowboarding could be combined under "snow sports." Racquetball, tennis, and squash could all be encompassed by "racquet sports." This will beef up some of the smaller groups and reduce the overall number of groups.

I do think up or down thumb is a good idea. But think about how it will affect the political forums and all the pity forums and the guy above you forum. People will give the post thumb down just out of sheer dislike for the person.

And, if anybody tries to post it in some other category, it gets immediately blocked.

On this note, I think the thumbs up/down just gives the snipers another shiny toy to play with. If I don't like a thread/post, I _ignore_ it. If I like it, I'll probably engage with it. If I were an OP, I would think it'd be far more helpful to have someone post "this question has been asked and answered at (link)" than just give a thumbs-down.

But that's why I proposed it for individual posts. But if someone wants to click thumbs down on every of this author's posts just out of spite, I guess there's nothing anyone can do about it.icon_neutral.gif

+100! I an sure a lot of people feels this way, not just me! It'll be quicker to find those game threads too.

OK, I know I suggested paring down the sports forums, but the addition of an "Extreme Sports" forum might be nice. We could lump all sorts of sports in there.

A separate forum for those mega-epic Israel vs. Palestine threads just for C4, Pouncer, and a handful of other combatants to post in, apart from the "News & Politics" forum.

    Just sayin'. ;)
