It's a pretty well known fact that Mariah Carey and Madonna don't like one another.

Who is your favoritie diva Madonna or Mariah?

Mariah just passed another icon on #1 singles with Touch My Body. Madonna's 4 Minutes to Save the World is grabbing everyone's attention. Especially since the video release. Plus, she's turning 50.

I almost positive Mariah Carey is the biggest selling female artist to ever live. I also think her old self would blow Madonna away vocally.

However I think for Madonna to survive as long as she has, she obviously is doing something right.

I don't really care for Madonna's vocals. I wouldnt even consider her diva because I see a diva as someone with big, good vocals.

madonna has sold more, but that's not the point.

madonna, hands down. she's an actual artist. she creates themes and worlds. she reinvents herself. her stage productions are theatrical.

mariah, who doesn't even sing by her own standards anymore, is a voice that stands behind a microphone on stage. there's nothing particularly artistic behind all the technique, and outside the united states she's next to no one. she's had 18 #1's here, but none in most other countries.

oh, and by the way, i prefer janet to all of them.

I liked Mariah back in the day when she used to sing better. I usually enjoy Madonna's music, but her more recent stuff hasn't been very good. I'll take Kylie.

Madonna doesn't write or produce her own music, whereas Mariah does. I definitely like both though to be honest. Madonna does release a lot of crap though

Hands down Madonna...she's more of a pop culture Icon, and has been for like 25 years...but I have great respect for the talents of both. I do find Mariah to be a little cheesy in he presentation. Madonna has really cleaned her act up, and I love how she just keeps reinventing herself. There is only one Madonna

    Madonna...definately.

She has a presence about her, on stage as well as off. I think Mariah has no personality, I think she's a bit skanky, and I never understood getting breast implants just to let them sag like that.

Um, yeah...I was never a big fan if you didn't figure it out. icon_smile.gif

    Madonna.
But if I were stranded on a desert island with only one singers songbook, it would probably be Stevie Nicks over her.

Check again. Madonna has a hand in writting and producing almost everything she has sung since her Madonna album.

And though Moo-Riah is a Cow (and i agree with Madonna that her popularity is another symbol of the dumbing down of American society... and i feel Payola), i will give her credit that when she danes to actually SING, she is the stronger vocalist.

HOWEVER Madonna is an artist. Her work evokes emotion, causes dialog, makes people think. Moo-riah... she kinda only shrieks like a banshee and goes crazy. Madonna gives you an entire package with her work... music, visual, and performance.

What's more, and recently Moo-riah has even given Madonna credit for this, had it not been for Madonna (and to an extent Cher and Tina Turner before her) Moo-riah, Janet, Britney, and even Kylie (who has ALWAYS given props, love and respect to Madonna, and indeed recieved it from her back) wouldn't be able to be the little sex pots they are today.

FURTHERMORE BOTH Janet and Moo-riah, who have stated scathing things about The Goddess Madonna in the past, have BOTH recently come out and stated that Madonna is indeed a true artist, and that she does amazing and wonderful things allowing them to further do... whatever it is that they... try to do.

Moo-riah can be duplicated. her songs are, okay at best. Up and coming individuals like Leona Lewis have far more personality and have just as strong a voice as Moo-riah. HOWEVER, there has YET to be anyone who has been able to duplicate the artistry, power, and talent in fields such as business and finance that Madonna is clearly the master of... including male counterparts like Prince and MJ.

My "desert island" singer would be Ella Fitzgerald.

Completely agree, you can't even call madonna a diva ... diva is Mariah carey, Celine dion and Whitney Housten. I don't think there is anything diva-like with Madonna. Her vocals are terrible ... her voice is so normal, the only reason she got big is because back then she had the good music and still does. But it's not her voice that made her big, more the performance.

If you can not pull the high notes and hold an 'AAAAAAAAAA' for a minute ... you sure as hell ain't no diva.

Yeah...but in terms of vocal ability and looks...Madonna looks and sounds like a step mother on crack...oh shoot and that gap btwn her teeth is as wide as the 405 freeway

    Madonna. Hands down.
She's one of the founding divas who paved the way for divas like Mariah and clearly outlasted Mariah like a real diva would.

To be a true Diva you gotta have class, style, and an act that will last. Madonna has done that elegantly over the years.

huh. I had never heard of this. How do you know what you know?

Madonna gets my vote. I have a few songs [emphasize FEW] of Mariah's that I enjoy, but never thought highly of her or her voice.
