Is anyone doing the NYCDC AIDS Ride? I wouldn't mind knowing some people on the ride. Especially if you are from the DC area.

Beyond that I am looking for sponsorship. If you can sponsor me for a few bucks I am adding the details below.

I will be riding my bicycle from Manhattan to Washington, DC in September to raise money for the NYCDC AIDS Ride. The money I raise will benefit a lab at George Mason University. This lab is conducting ground breaking research in a cure for HIV.

Please help me reach my goal of raising $2500.00. 1 in 20 people are affected by HIV in the Washington, DC area and we all know HIV is still a problem worldwide.

I will ride my bike 330 miles in September. I am asking you to donate what you can to support this cause.

Please click the link below to go to my personal donation page and donate online.

Has anyone done the Empire State AIDS Ride? This organization is the same one that organized that ride. I was curious if anyone had any experience with them.

Anyone have recommendations for training for a multi-day long distance ride?

There are a # of guys on here, including myself, who've done the California AIDS/LifeCycle ride. Not sure what kind of advice you want -- but at a bare minimum, you should be riding a few times a week (you could include a spin class if you're putting in a strong effort), plus long rides on the weekends.

Does the organization sponsoring your ride have organized training rides that you can participate in?

They do but can't really make them...

My plan right now is ride 2-3 times a week to work..7 miles each way and long rides on weekends..usually 30-50 miles.

You should ride longer than 50 mi. I'm guessing the daily mileage on your ride is probably around 80 mi (or more). Your butt needs to be accustomed to being in the saddle that long.

If 50 is as long as you can do because of time constraints, ride that distance both weekend days to prepare.

    Update

I hit the 15 mile mark this weekend. Long way to go, but several months left to train. I could have probably went on with a break.

I was not sore the next day, so...I prob did not work hard enough.;)

My buddy Ben did the NY to DC ride last year. I am doing the CA AIDS/Lifecycle in June, if you need a training buddy, let me know.

    Live in Columbia Heights.
