Gay harassed last night....twice.

This shocked me because Denver is a really open city.

The first incident my friend and I were by a bar near my university. These two drunk guys were walking by as my friend and I were going into the bar. One of the guys said something (but toward us, not his friend) to the extent of "...fcking highlighted f@ggots". I guess our clothing was too bright for his taste. I'll try to consider appeasing him next time I use my autonomy to dress myself.

The second was when we were downtown near bars and walking on the sidewalk. We passed another drunk guy coming the opposite way who as I was telling a story to my friend who yelled in a caricature-effeminate voice "OH MY GOD ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!"

How do I handle this personally. I have always been really good about not letting things like this bother me, but twice in one night was just too much. Made me want to punch someone.

Meh, don't worry too much about what some random troglodytes say. It's a shame that they're probably allowed to vote. Sometimes it's better not to say anything, especially since they were drunk so they already wouldn't be thinking all that well. You don't know if they're crazy or violent.
I was worried that the gay bashing had to do with violent encounters. At least you're safe.

If you do want to punch someone, which I'm not advocating, the drunk hicks most likely won't press charges. Do you think he wants to admit to the world that a f****t beat him up?

That sucks man but if is definitely to be expected. Just gotta brush it off. I know, easier said than done. I have never had something like that shouted at me, but I assume if I did, I would be ready to beat some ass. Show those guys how much of a fag I really am haha.

Let's not throw words around. You weren't "bashed". You had two bad experiences with some passive aggressive drunk guys.

If something like this happens again, then say something. And if you do, you better be ready to fight if needed.

Agreed. This is not bashing. This is verbal abuse. Bashing leaves you with physical injuries and should not be trivialized, no matter how unpleasant the verbal is.

Your answer is contained in your own post. These guys were drunk -- drunks say stupid shit, whether about gays or something else. You forget about it.

Consult us again when a dead sober guy says this to you. But drunks are to be disregarded, the same way as we dismiss the indiscretions & ramblings of little children. It's only an insult and an issue when it's delivered by a fully-functional adult.

In the first place, you were harassed, not gay bashed.

If I had been in your place, I would have just kept right on walking, although I'm sure I would have felt an emotional stab to the heart.

It wasn't personal. They were drunk (no excuse) and made nasty remarks.
It could have been anybody gay or otherwise. You were just a convenient target.

I feel ya, I don't experience it anymore, but when I did it always hurt.

I never went against it, I just try to get over it.

Your a cute boy. Don't let their words concern you. Unless they pulled a knife or gun on me, I wouldn't give it a second thought.

Just move passed it. don't expend anymore energy on them.

They were probably pissed off that you were getting some ass that night and they were turned down by 20 fat chicks at straight bars.

i make the caricature-effeminate voice all the time, well, not to gay people though. still, it's just w/e, that's pretty minor. walk confident and dont let shit phase you.

Ignoring people can be the best thing to do,because when someone shouts something stupid and you don't respond they just look like a jackass talking to themselves.

But if it were me I would have probably said something back to them since I can be sassy like that lol

I say, carry a ziploc bag full of captured bed bugs. When harassed so again, offer said drunk person said ziploc bag. But tell them it's free pot to help them chill out.
