Guys, in general, both straight and gay, they always say things like here's my ugly mug, and stuff like that?! It drives me crazy because sometimes the guy is freakin hot and he's like I'm so ugly,icon_eek.gif they say it kinda like joking but I just wanna know WHY? I never see women saying they're ugly and putting themselves down?

There's something disturbing about a man who openly talks about being beautiful or handsome.

I'm not saying that they should just say, here's my face pic or something like that because I've lost count of how many times I've heard the phrase, here's my ugly mug, or I hope I don't scare you. And they're not ugly at all.

Just the fact that a guy brags about how hot or handsome he is, makes him ugly. Most hot guys, imho, don't even know how hot they are. It's always the ugly ones says that they're beautiful and shit...(btw this comment was NOT targeted at anyone specifically here on RJ so don't flame me guys)

That's the other extreme, I'm not saying that they should say how beautiful/hot they are but they shouldn't say how ugly they think they are either.

"i am ugly" = attention whore

" I am hot, SEXYMUSCLESTUD"= low self esteem

not commenting on self appearance= no screws loose in head

Just a catch-phrase then? Ya know how sometimes people would call each other "you ugly motherf*cker"? Maybe like that? Or, phishing for compliments is another possibility. I usually would just totally ignore it. Or say, "whatever". If they're phishing for compliments it will just kill them and it's actually quite amusing to watch, lol.

Modesty... is hot. When a hot guy behaves as if a picture of him is not hot.. He becomes 3 times as hot. Then it leads to sex. icon_cool.gif

"Men being ugly by nature" is also among the antiquated though still ascribed to notions of "masculinity". It goes hand in hand with walking a certain way, talking a certain way and fitting in with other old as hell notions of "how men should be".

    They're fishing for complements.

The best thing you can do in those instances is agree with them. "Why yes, you're face is quite ugly" is an appropriate response.

Actually, it's usually the other way around. Guys who genuinely think of themselves as ugly or unattractive usually suffer from low self-esteem, often because they compare themselves to others whom they see as beautiful and think they can never measure up. Add to this the rejection they often get from others guys when they try chatting them up, or even approach them in a night club, and it just builds itself up. According to my friends, I'm one of those guys. Trust me, the LAST thing I want when I go out is some guy's attention who thinks he can flatter me and buy me drinks just so I'll let him take me home and pleasure him, then kick me out when he's done. Been there, done that, sick and tired of it. If he says I'm beautiful, I know what he's really after.

i have a friend who likes to constantly say how ugly he is whether its in person or on a fb status just so people can tell him how hot he is.... just shows they have low self-esteem and need constant reassurance

This is sarcasm, right? If not, we must live on a different planet.

I think the whole ugly thing is either 1) genuine and might show low self-esteem or 2) falsely modest and wanting someone to contradict them

    or 3) He's actually ugly icon_eek.gif

Honestly, it's a shield against rejection. I'm someone who's fairly proud of some of my personal accomplishments and I never call myself stupid, or say that I'm a bad singer, or whatever.

I will, however, comment about things about me that I'd imagine another guy would notice from looking at me. It's something I've worked pretty hard to stop doing because guys instantly see it as a sign of low self-confidence.

Agreed. Women complain about being unattractive all the time. I constantly hear them say "omg, I'm so fat," and this comes from women that barely weigh over a hundred pounds, and should be eating more not starving themselves to death.icon_rolleyes.gif
