I got an e-mail from out favorite Key West gay guest house today, that's offering weekend specials. Just $120 a night for 2, in our favorite duplex suite we always use. All male and clothing optional, right on Duval Street, the main drag in Key West, we love this place.

So I called my partner at his office, and he said yes, let's do it! It's only 193 miles from our doorstep, an easy drive, we haven't been there since February.

Who said old geezers like us can't be spontaneous? Reservations are already made, the room paid for. Now we've gotta call all our Key West friends and let them know we're coming down. In fact, I already phoned a gay friend of ours who owns "graffiti" menswear on Duval, so we can link up with him.

I'll make reservations at several of our favorite restaurants for evening dinners, before we even leave Wilton Manors, to ensure we have a good table. A little treat for my partner, all on me, he needs this sort of thing every now & then. Not to mention I do, too!

And yes, I'll post pics here.

YAY! I just got reservations for "Michaels" on Saturday night at 7:30 in their garden patio, our favorite Key West restaurant. We know the owners, supporters of the SMART Ride. I told my partner, who just got home, and he was so happy! He LOVES Michaels, and a trip to Key West without a dinner there would disappoint him. I know how to please my man! icon_biggrin.gif

As a fellow Neu Yawkah, you can always rely on me to be your guide down here. You can't come live with us, but if you wanna visit, I'll try to provide you with a memorable experience.

Oh, we will, trust me. More than anyone our ages (77 & 62) are supposed to have. Both of us are little kids, even if our bodies are crumbling around us.

We have such silly fun. And we're never gonna be old. Not inside, anyway, despite what our bodies are doing on the outside. Anyone here who has met us in person knows we are just goofy and juvenile, and we intend to remain that way forever. This is what I've always believed, and saw on TV as a kid in the 1950s:

Interestingly, my partner and I, also Floridians like yourselves, we just discussing going down there when the school year ends. Sadly, we'll have our dog, which limits our options at nightfall, but doing the day? We're probalby good. Does your colleague's place take animals? If so, let me know numbers via email!

    Peace,
    Bardy

OK, I found a pet-friendly place in Key West, where we ourselves have stayed and enjoyed. The Cypress House, and I'm e-mailing you directly about it.

We contacted a gay couple we know, and they may join us! The suite we have is a duplex (2 level), with 2 king beds in 2 bedrooms and a full kitchen, the suite we always take, even when it's just the 2 of us. It would be so super if they can spend the weekend with us.

For something we just threw together today, this is really working out wonderfully. And I'll just change the reservation at Michael's to 4 on Saturday, since most of their tables are for 4 anyway, and we know the owner. Who usually comps us for the wine or the dessert. I can't believe how well this is going on the spur of the moment! icon_biggrin.gif

I do recommend this place if you come down to Key West. I get no compensation for plugging them, needless to say, and I've stayed or visited lots of guest houses in Key West. Do look this one over. Location is everything.

And this one has electronic gated parking in a compound. Very rare in Key West. At most places you have to park on the street, if you can find a spot. We always take suite 24, on the far right of the veranda in the photo from Duval Street.

O you're a New Yorker? Then you MUST visit Curacao sometime for our shared history .. and perhaps St Martin as well (they were the islands where Peg Leg Pete lived and lost his leg before heading to New Netherlands)

Well, if your plans change, you'll know where we'll be -- New Orleans House on Duval, Room 24.

New Netherlands? I know New Amsterdam, which later became New York City after the English captured it. My Dutch ancestors lived there and later settled nearby New Jersey in the 1600s, founding a couple of towns (Montclair & Little Falls).

I kinda stretch the truth when I say I'm a New Yorker, actually from the same part of New Jersey that my ancestors founded hundreds of years ago. But only 25 miles due west of Manhattan, all our TV channels, radio and newspapers coming from the City, all our shopping done there (before the era of the suburban shopping malls), everything revolving around New York. And my accent -- the less said the better. icon_sad.gif

So what do you know of NYC? Are you also from that area, or spend time there?

Not me -- my partner. He turns 77 in a month, and you can't stop him. He walks my legs off (I have to use a cane), and I'm always telling him to wait up for me, though he had a total hip replacement 18 months ago.

He had a heart attack this past October, and you'd never know it. As always he worked Crew for the SMART Ride in November, the HIV/AIDS charity he helped found, 3 weeks after coming out of the cardiac unit of the hospital, doing 6 long days of non-stop activity. And he'll do it again this November, while I'll be pedaling a bike 165 miles to Key West.

Though both of us served in the US Army, I use a naval expression to describe us. We each intend to go down with all flags flying, active until the very end.

If you want inspiration, look to my partner. At 77 he's absolutely astonishing. At merely 62 I'm just sorta meh...

But thanks for the compliment. I'll take it for my partner, not for me.
