You find yourself in a definitive position: you are on one side of a bridge and muscle guys are on the other. What will you do to join them? Realjock has GREAT exercise plans. I just did one and wow, feel great, feel hit. There are members here who used to be skinny, but are now muscular. Reach out to them, maybe start a thread: "If you used to be skinny and are now muscular, help me!" or something like that.
I hate telling you to change, but It's hard to explain the problem here: why skinny and non athletic will prefer muscle, but so many muscle prefer only muscle. Calling it shallowness would be easy, but it isn't that. I believe it's because muscle is ideal, hard wired into our brain to be attracted to a fit body over other, much like humans ideally prefer being dry over wet and of course you can't blame muscle guys for preferring muscle as much as you can't blame skinny or non athletic guys for preferring muscle.
You'll just have to be patient, get into a routine for size, and give it your all.

And yes he sells a book; I wouldn't buy too many books, but get your hands on some, however you do it. That's something else you'll notice about the real huge muscle guys, face always inside of a book on the subject.
Speaking of immersion: hang around muscle guys platonically too. Get to know them, which could change everything, even how you cater to your ideals. In the meantime, be paying attention to your intake; you're an ectomorph; that article should be of use to you.
You will make a great muscle guy someday. You'll find yourself sensitive to that skinny fellar who throws his cap at you. Maybe you'll say the hell with ideals and acquiesce to a date...of course, you don't have to wait either.
