"Police also found nails, a hammer, an electric drill, pieces of wood and instructions on how to build crosses inside a tent near the scene, Chung said. An SUV belonging to the dead man was found nearby."

I like how the religious fanatic took care in replicating the authentic details of the crucifixion, down to the Home Depot drill set used by the Romans to craft the cross as well as the Dodge Caravan Jesus drove to hand himself over to Pontius Pilate after dropping off the kids from his soccer carpool.

I'm betting it was militant atheists. Or at the very least, rabid agnostics.

I really can not resist when news articles such as this leave it so open...
    (From the article)
Police are waiting for a forensic report to determine the exact time and cause of the man’s death and whether it was a homicide or suicide.
Let me try to help using only clues found in the article.
The body of a man with his hands and feet nailed to a wooden cross... has been found in an abandoned stone quarry (with) nylon strings tied around his neck, arms and stomach,

I hope that I have helped the police determine if it is a homicide or suicide by focusing on a few points raised in the article. It seems self-evident to me that this is the first case of suicide by crucifixion in the whole of recorded history.icon_razz.gif

I genuinely hope it was an "assisted" suicide. That he's some poor freak with an extreme jesus fetish who wanted this for himself, cos that's a horrible way to be killed. some people are weird like that.

Remember the german cannibal a few years ago? he actually found willing victims on-line who had this weird desire to be eaten???
(just thinking about it makes my stomach turn)

But the thing is that it was still murder (even if he found the volunteer who wanted to be eaten.) There is a line between assisted suicide and murder. I would venture that line falls somewhere before nailing somebody to a cross, binding their arms and neck then piercing their side... Somehow I can't see any reasonable person being able to justify this as suicide. I would venture that the police may find themselves looking for a murderer even if they discover a "suicide note" with the body... somebody did this as I would venture that he did not nail and lash himself to the cross.

that's why I used citation marks in "assisted". of course it is murder, and I think the guy who "helped" in this macabre ritual is every bit as dangerous and disturbed as any other murderer.
I'm only saying, if the dead guy's some disturbed freak who wanted this to happen to him, that's at least a very very very small comfort, vs if it's a victim who didn't consent.
