Our new farm is quite the hobby. The new tractor came this week. I can't wait to drive it - but then I think I'll have plenty of opportunities with 40 acres to bush hog.
Otherwise, when I think about it, I am such a dweeb.
I am not really much of a photographer, but I collect old Polaroid cameras. My favorite, which I still break out relatively often, is a Big Swinger that takes groovy B&W shots with a plastic lens, and flashbulbs that send up a shot of smoke every time one goes off. I also have a Polaroid 185 in mint condition - the rarest Polaroid ever made, only a few were made for Dr. Land's friends. I shot a couple of pics with it but otherwise it sits on the shelf and looks pretty.
Board games! I love Ticket to Ride, Small World, Agricola, Carcassonne - Settlers of Catan is not my favorite (mostly because everyone I know who plays it is really experienced and kicks my ass).
Headphones, though I am not a crazy crazy enthusiast. I have a pair of Alessandro MS1s which I think are fantastic fantastic fantastic, especially since they cost under $100. I use Shure SE530 canal phones for day to day iphone listening.
EDITED TO ADD:
I keep thinking of more things.
Cooking, especially Asian stuff: Thai, Lao, Cambodian, Chinese.
International travel. I take a big 2-3 week trip somewhere fun every couple of years - I used to do it yearly but can't manage the time off any more. Last year was Berlin/Prague/Vienna, but I really prefer Asia. I've done, among others, China (train travel between Shanghai and Beijing, several stops), Japan/Cambodia, Thailand/Laos, Hong Kong/Bali, Japan/Philippines. I really want to go to India, Vietnam, China again (Sichuan and Hunnan provinces, and Tibet) and to Java and Sumatra in Indonesia.
Frequent flier points. I would give my right arm for a few extra American Airlines Aadvantage miles or Starwood Starpoints. Most of my big trips have been "free" (or nearly so) and at very nice hotels, with first or business class airfare, because of my obsession. A fun internet community for this is www.flyertalk.com
- I've been on there since proably 1997, but it's gotten too big and impersonal to be as much fun any more.
