I served my country for several years,

I tell people "I am just your average every day kinda guy guy" (which I am) , but as soon as the subject of 'career' pops up and I say I was in the military, a lot of guys (obviously not all) become really interested all of a sudden and say how "hot" that is.

I saw a recent thread about what kind of careers 'turn people on'

Why do a lot of people find Military guys in general so hot?

Remember, too, military are (usually) kept in peak physical condition and always have to have a clean uniform. Add those two things with a respectful attitude and *puft* a dream date.

    I speak from experience.

    Peace,

Oh, I dunno....willingness to put themselves in harms' way for an ideal. Many (including you) have absolutely banging bodies; some of us fetishize the "all men" military environment (even though most militaries are mixed gender these days); the rough 'n ready "get 'er done" attitude that pretty much all service guys have; the leadership qualities that most have (relative to most of us non-military types); and much more, I'm sure.

Militaries are designed to be masculinely intimidating...you want the other guys to worry that you're way more man than they can handle. Everything, the uniforms, the precision marching, the demeanor, the equipment is designed to exemplify strength. As a gay man, I find that very hot indeed. icon_twisted.gif

    Preach it!

Because they are all macho, in control, sexy, yummy icon_redface.gif they usually know how to take charge and make you feel safe. ++++ As a bonus they tend to have nice bodies.

I'm the opposite, and I'm even a Republican. Growing up doing Boy Scouts in a troop with significant military influence, I've grown a strong distaste for militarism and following orders without question. I respect those who serve the global causes of peace and human rights, but wouldn't date anyone who was paid to get spat on by power-hungry guys with an urge to compensate. That sounds like the job description of a sissy twink escort... no offense but that's totally true.

An independent, individualistic spirit, the ability to question, and a readiness to stand up for oneself = damn hot. Not that military guys can't have those things, but the kind of guy I'm into doesn't take shit from people.

Just the impression they have and preconceived perception of dominance, aggression, masculinity and physically adept. I think the perceptions around masculinity play a larger role, with the stereotypical effeminate traits being branded onto anyone who confirms that they are gay and bi, servicemen tend to have that quashed when it's implied that they can run onto a battlefield and save the day for their country.

Its probably because most guys in the military are young, fit and masculine. The fantasy quickly crumbles after they get older and are not physically fit anymore. I mean, I don't think too many people who fantasize about military veterans.

Its no wonder you're so messed up. Your brain doesn't allow the larger picture and the reasons behind it. Unfortunately for you, you have the freedom to 'think' the way you do about things which have been a part of the human psyche since the beginnings of time.

the "warrior" is the epitome of masculinity and the selfless "protector" in our psyche. Those two archetypes are the quintessence of the paternal figure - comforting and strong, who keeps us safe. We can feel fully relaxed in the protective embrace of such a figure.

It's for the same reason that people fantasize about cops, firemen, etc. i.e. it is a fantasy, disconnected from the reality of life. Most cops, firemen and military personnel around the world spend the vast majority of their time bored shitless. There are some hot military guys, there are also some hot guys working at the mall. There are also plenty of doughy out of shape military personnel. The fraction of the military that is trained and conditioned for hand to hand combat is increasingly counterbalanced by tech nerds who kill people with joysticks using remote weapons. Effective, but hardly hot.

It is a total myth that military guys do not think for themselves - they have to problem solve to survive and protect their comrades ... But you are safe ...I doubt that you would have much appeal at all - and the reference to boy scouts??? WTF!!!

I think it refers to the idea of taking orders for a living. But even if we disagree with FtF it is his opinion, he does have a right to it.

Like all men, those who serve come with problems and issues a like. They are hot because that's how we see them. Knowing and living with them can be pleasant or disappointing. Its what you make of being with/near them.

Military guys have a higher probability of being in great physical condition because many of the jobs demand it.
The same goes for many other careers that require peak physical conditioning.
Most gay guys tend to be attracted to guys who are in great physical condition.
Therefore, by association, it's natural to be drawn to guys who work in careers that demand great physical condition.

That's why most gay guys think military guys are so hot.
