Norwegian, Princess, Celebrity, Cunard, and Silversea are some of the best cruise lines out there, in my personal opinion. I would avoid Carnival like the plague!

If you want to go somewhere warm, you can do the usual Caribbean and Mexico, or you can fly to Spain and take a cruise through the Mediterranean or cruise around Southeast Asia from Singapore and Hong Kong.

If you want to go somewhere temperate, or perhaps even cool, I would suggest Canada or Western/Northern Europe. The cool, windy beaches of France, Belgium, The Netherlands, and the U.K. are gorgeous.

I've done a lot of research about cruises and am going on my first cruise (in exactly 4 weeks) to Alaska. I chose Alaska because a lot of veteran 'cruisers' unanimously agree that Alaskan cruises are the best. Personally, I chose the Celebrity Century (because it was the best one for the price). Hope this helps!

I've never been on a cruise (something about being confined to a boat for a week); but my mom has been on several. The Alaskan 2-week cruise was her fav.

Would never go on a cruise, so I wouldn't be able to say sorry. Isn't the whole Idea that you stay on a big ship?

Been on many cruises, and I hope to do more in the future. Celebrity Cruise lines (which I believe is the upper echelon of Royal Caribbean) is by far the best I've been on.

I've been on lots of cruises

First I think where you go is more important than the cruise line
    But I would avoid Carnival
Are you wanting a destination cruise or a cruise just to chill out and relax in the sun?

If you want to just relax ... any Caribbean or Mexican cruise can do that for you
but if you want to see sights and get more bang for your buck a Med Cruise would be your best bet

    +1

Brad, do you prefer gay cruise or straight criuses? That depends on who you're traveling with though, I guess.

Really depends on what you like.

Carnival - party ship, loud. Never been on this line, but seems to be general consensus. I agree with the comments to avoid, but just heard from a couple of experienced travelers who went on it and said food and service was good.

Royal Carrib, Norwegian - Mainstream, mass market. Depending on the season, many kids. Again no first hand experience, but reputation.

Celebrity, Princess, Holland America - upper lines. Holland America has a reputation for attracting more senior citizens. Excellent food and service.

Oceania - Premium line, most ships smaller, country club casual. Food is outstanding. Never need to wear jacket and tie or tux. Would normally not recommend for exciting times, but I met a couple of crew members, and we are still in contact.

Crystal - Top echelon, very $$$, includes wine and liquor, reputation for being stuffy

Go to http://boards.cruisecritic.com/ Forums by cruise line, destination, special interests, including a Gay and Lesbian board (I know that is not a special interest, just where it is located on the forum)

    Alaska is beautiful.
The Alaska cruises, however, used to be the vacation of choice for the AARP crowd. I don't know if things have changed.

Spend the extra cash to get a cabin with a balcony, or you'll be sorry.

Disney icon_smile.gif haha naw avoid Disney. But spend the extra money for the balcony. The Cruise Line doesnt really matter as the destination is the more important choice. AVOID Progresso,Mexico.. Cozumel is boring. Do the Caymen Islands or Jamaica.
