On this day in 1886, Coca-Cola was first sold at Jacob's Pharmacy in Atlanta, GA.

In 1903, cocaine was removed from the drink.
In 1985, New Coke was introduced and quickly removed from the American market.
A number of varieties are only available in foreign countries such as Vanilla, Citra, and Orange.

I'm not much of a soda drinker, but I can tell you that Coca-Cola tastes different (not to mention BETTER) in Latin American countries. Get your hands on bottles of Coca-Cola imported from Mexico or Peru if you can. You'll never want to drink the North American recipe again.

Ah yes, I believe Diet Coke is called Coca Light in every country outside the US and Canada. I definitely remember seeing it as Coca/Coke Light in the UK, Russia, and Spain. The word "diet" doesn't go over well in other countries.

That must have been an imported Coke Light in the UK, it's definitely Diet Coke here. Just went on Coke's UK site to check ( in case I was wrong).

Probably so! For the record, it was in Heathrow I saw it. I never really stood foot outside the airport. I was flying from Washington to Moscow, and Heathrow was the connector to Moscow.

In 1904, Coca-Cola saw a drastic decrease in sales from the previous year.

The taste difference is said to be account they use high fructose corn syrup now instead of sugar like they used to.. The Mexican stuff always used sugar and you could buy it in some grocery stores for a premium.. I just noticed the other day there was some Pepsi at the store Pepsi Retro,, that's made with sugar once again.

This reminds me that I need to drop by the Latin food market some time soon. I haven't drunk a Coke in about half a year!

Good thing I bought a large amount of Coca-Cola bottles before 1903. Best investment I have ever made.

They're based here in Atlanta, and on my way home from a movie tonight, we pulled over to watch their HQ building, which has been transformed to a giant display screen on all sides. This sampler shows some better quality than my phone captured:

It really makes all the difference. When I first had Mexican Coke like 10 years ago, I haven't been able to drink an American Coke since then.
