I know so many guys who are really photogenic. Damn, on RJ there are a million guys who are just gorgeous.

I hate smiling in pictures because i look horrible. I went to a cookout this weekend and there were a bunch of candids and I hate them all. I have about 3 extra chins and beady eyes and ruddy face. I look like the love child of Seth Rogan and Janet Reno.

How can i take better pictures? I cant change my looks, but what can I do to help take better pictures?

I feel your pain fella, I am very unphotogenic too.

I hate Facebook because there's loads of pics of me looking like an absolute freak.

I find it hard to believe with you though, cos you're hot.

I found that tilting your head up and standing with your hips at a 45 degree angle (but torso turned toward camera) gives good pictures. Not me of course.

    BTW, you're hot!icon_wink.gif

I find that the best pictures of me are taken when I don't know I'm being photographed. The minute I have to pose and smile, I know it's going to be a horrible picture.

Definitely!! I have no idea how to pose and look 'natural' or what my good angles or anything are.

Stop using "professional" photographers, stop posing so much and lose the props (ie chain around the neck, etc.) People appreciate photos that capture the real you and can usually spot a fake Glamor Shot in an instant. If you want to see how ridiculous these posed pics can look, go to Bigmuscle.com and take a gander at those pretentious fucks. Plus, professional photo shoots create a LOT of agonizing expectations that are rarely met in real life. Candid snapshots are full of possibilities. You can take hundreds to get the ones you really like. If you have to hit the "delete" button, your disappointed for about two seconds and you're done.

No doubt another factor is just being happy with the way you look. There are a million things I'd like to change about my appearance, but that's just who I am.

based on the number of times i've had this facebook update, i'll offer up

"so and so has made your photo his profile photo"

where i've taken images of people at events or while talking to them and posted ONLY THE BEST IMAGES, which were apparently good enough that people chose to represent themselves with one of the images. the key here is volume. if you are in a well lighted environment and someone has a decent camera, they can shoot 1000 images, don't think about it, just go home and pick and choose.

Would you rather look good in 2D or 3D?

Would it feel better for a guy that has seen your pics come up to you with eyes really wide open and say " Damn you are HOT!!!!!"

Or the same guy walking up to you and say " Are those pics of you? Are they really you?" Oh great pics by the way with a blank stare on his face.

Personally I like nice surprises so "HOT" in 3D is my choice icon_wink.gif

Thats what I am talking about... My buddy knows how to look natural, handsome and consistent in every picture...

And for all of you who say I am hot, thank you. But remember the pics of me looking like a serial killer or like I am drunk you wont see those pictures on here. Facebook is where all of the fat faced, chemically impaired pictures are.

I thought this thread was about how to shoot better pictures... 'Cause I'm lousy both in front and behind the lens. icon_redface.gif

But aren't we usually our own worst critic anyway?

As for Facebook, I actually will go and un-tag myself whenever my friends tag me in their photos... And pray that nobody would notice. icon_smile.gif

I agree with Alpha_Muscle and Pure. I look like a constipated serial killer in some of my self taken pics. It will be rare (the case are the three pics on my profile) that they look good. But my verify pic? I look like I deer drugged on high caffeine right before a truck's headlights are coming.

When they are taken by another person, they all look wonderful. I don't know how.Even people who see them and then meet me in person wonder how different they look from the real me.

Photos are easy to be picky about... but that doesn't make the person real.

From a photographer point of view, you want the best looking photo. Composition, look, lighting, tone, facial expression, body pose...

I'd say try more real or true-to-life photos. Out with friends, anything. Confidence on what you really look like is sexy. icon_biggrin.gif

Looking at your profile pics, the thing that jumps out at me is your mustache, which looks like a perpetual frown, as if you were angry or cranky, all the time.
And, I think I saw just one picture where you were smiling.

I have always hated my pictures.
But, I used to see this professional photographer at all the street fairs. And, he'd always ask to take my picture. He'd tell me exactly how to stand, how to pose, etc., etc. And, the pictures came out great.

Unless your teeth are grossly gnarled or deformed a smile makes you look better to everyone around you. Maybe not to the heavily biased image you and everyone has of themselves, but to everyone else. Took me a looooooong while to internalize this myself, which is why I'm starting to smile in my pictures (something that if you knew me a while back was totally out of the question for me).

    Oh this too.

Guys ALWAYS tell me they love my smile. It's almost unheard of for a guy to flirt with me without complimenting my smile. Smiles make you seem pleasant and inviting, unless you're a creeper sitting in the corner of a subway car smiling at people. Then it gets weird.
