My partner e-mailed this to me from his office today, to encourage me about aging:

As we get older we sometimes begin to doubt our ability to "make a difference" in the world. It is at these times that our hopes are boosted by the remarkable achievements of other "seniors" who have found the courage to take on challenges that would make many of us wither.

Harold Schlumberg is such a person:

    image001111.jpg

    QUOTE FROM HAROLD:

"I've often been asked, what do you old folks do now that you're retired? Well ... I'm fortunate to have a chemical engineering background, and one of the things I enjoy most is converting beer, wine and vodka into urine. I do it every day and I really enjoy it."

Harold is an inspiration to us all. Kind of tugs at your heart to see a happy senior, eh?

In Harold's honor I'm gonna spend the rest of today following in his steps (at least while I can still walk in a straight line). icon_biggrin.gif

Yeah, that's what tickled me, getting caught off guard. I expected the usual gooey sentiments, and got a little surprise at the end. icon_biggrin.gif

Oh get a life. You behave older than that guy in the photo. When you can't understand a joke, and some silly humor, you've already got one foot in your grave. With or without alcohol. Lighten up, Mary.

Alcoholism is not something to joke about----This is a health and fitness site---you must not like talking about alcoholism- Why is that?

JAKEBENSON saidI wish old gay men would be inspirational, but most of them died from AIDS. The ones that are left either survived from having a long term relationship and not cheating, or are so socially inept (more cases of this) they didn't have sex for long periods of time.

Really......Really? Jake who told you this or what old Geezer bar do you hang out in?

Jake if your premise is correct then I better check to see if I am dead icon_eek.gif

If I am not dead then your logic tells me I am inept. Thanks for clarifying my life for me. icon_wink.gif

Intelligent move for a complete and utter spaz.

Even sadder to see someone who's so ugly that he has to hide his pics just to get anyone to respond to him in the forum...sober or not.

I hope when I get old that I become the silly, perverted, and senile kind because at least I'd be fun despite my occasionally madness. I don't want to be a moody bitch with a cane up his ass.

For those of us old enough to of experienced and endured the Gay Plague era. Where so many of our half brothers the bisexuals went running and hiding behind the wife and kids for safety, and did absolutely nothing to help us, now the lights were off at the party, and they did not come out to play with us not until it was safer agin to do so, and most of the histeria had gone away by then anyways.icon_rolleyes.gificon_twisted.gif

We also had brothers who went running home to mummy, and did nothing to help during our darkest years either, and did not come out to play until the lights on the party were back on agian, and the histeria was gone, so was much of the fear.

Then there was those of us who did not flee, and abandon the gay community during the Gay Plague era. Many helped keep the gay pubs open by still going out, looking drinking, but not toughing, for fear of becoming infected by this deadly slow killing virus; yes they become alcoholics. But they did not run and hid. They did not do much to help either like those of us who stood steadfast by the gay community fighting for tolerance, and peace; when so many hid and did nothing, and became alcoholics in the process..

The youth of today have no such fear or pressure to deal with; so their drinking could come down to the gay club scene. The street parades promote the same irresponsible behaviour, as with drinking, and drug taking.

It must be a challenge for those who do not come out until their use by date has passed, with all of their youth. because being gay is all about being young with value.

Outside the gay world, one has met a many inspirational old person. Saddly as one of the real gays, the generations before had not done alot of work in our liberation, as they still held and attended small hidden intimate parties at Dorothy's.

For this they also did very little for our advancement in acceptance either, as they were hidden away, and still very insecure. No all that hard ground work was left up to us younger gays who went to new public gay pubs, who got the first Sleaze Balls, Pride Parties up and going too.

But outside the gay community, one has cared for, nursed many an inspirational old person; some great old buggers.
