Africans have been killing albinos for centuries attempting to rid of "the plague" they hold. This isn't too surprising.

I would never have guessed there are enough albinos in Africa for this to be an issue.

    Wow, that's intense...

I hope the only albino kid I ever knew in Nigeria is still doing alright... icon_neutral.gif

If there are no albinos around at that moment, would they resort to killing a white person because they so desperately want the "magic abino power"?

Would said white person be albino? Otherwise no, this isn't about race.

But if they're foolish enough to believe that an albino person's body parts possesses special powers, who's to say that they might not think that a white person's body parts might hold some of that special power too?

There are plenty of white Africans. And so far I haven't read anything about them being murdered for body parts. It's about the unusualness (I know that's not a word) of someone with dark parents being born so pale. It's seen as witchcraft, that's the whole point of this belief system.

Plenty of white Africans yes, but are there many whom are living in Tanzania? After reading that article, if I was living there, I'd be scared to venture out alone, thinking that I might be "accidentally" mistaken for an albino and getting killed for the slight possibility that they'd hope for some sort of magic power that my corpse will release. The quest for potential power can drive the crazies to be even more crazier.

The singer Salif Keita has been trying to raise awareness about this for years.
