Hi everyone, our dear fellow RJ member KREAWIZ5 raised an issue of how the current color combo on the palette of the RJ page affects our behavior and attitude on this site: hence the disharmony among its members.
While this may require some expertise in the fields of psychology and marketing, I was wondering what your feedbacks are now that this was brought to your attention.

    yeah, i did )

    i suggest -
to change palette to sandy and sky-blue/aquamarine
'cause ..i suppose that's why very nice guys are finally suddenly moving from here to other gay online services. Though it's all about subconscious - but fragile design_guys could not withstand it - i swear, 'cause i hardly do

so, interested in your opinions -
    what about skyblue/aquamarine palette?

i don't mind it. it's pretty close to my email account's colours. i think alot of guys are leaving, cuz other people are putting negative comments in threads that they wouldn't partake in.

ie: had i thought this thread was infantile, instead of just skipping over it, i'd bitch you all out about it.

but i actually wanna hear someone with a psych' background on this one.

I dont know from a psychological point of view, but from a design point of view...

the maroon and gold is a more traditional, team colors, serious color palette...

light blues and greens are cool colors that can also give a more modern, popular feel...

the maroon and gold give a more serious tone to the site...like this is a site for sports and fitness, not sex and hookups...

light blues and greens could belie that message...

maybe the guys who left were looking for a "trashier" site...

I like the current colours, and I wouldn't want to see them changed. They go well with my wall colour. icon_razz.gif

Ok, seriously. Yes colours can affect mood and behaviour, but I don't think the red and gold of RJ has a significant impact on the membership. Save for a few of us without lives, most of the membership just doesn't spend enough time staring at their computer screens to allow for colours to have an effect, whether good or bad.

A sandy and sky-blue/aquamarine colour palette is calming and serene, but again, I just don't think it would really have enough impact on the membership. I personally I wouldn't be happy with the change. I like it the way it is.

but you couldn't make proper GOLD with RGB, you know..)

Either imagining things or you have new holographic 3D-device for a monitor. My congrats! icon_smile.gif

Back again, as far as i know the dark-yellow-green is connected with hatred (though not literally about gall)

Let's change it to shades of gray - would look posh and glamourous next to "bordeaux"

The goldenrod yellow, harvest gold and ocher tones are very Brady Bunch/711 but I like the red, gold, gray idea. It's very athletic and sporty...could definitely use some dark Navy blue and a slightly deeper/warmer tone of gray (clay gray) in the background. It could also use a little gloss and shadow on the frames and features.

Just think of a classic sneaker...thats the kinda color combo that would work on here.

Well, whether one calls it gold or yellow-green it's still the same colour.

In colour therapy, each colour has positive and negative attributes. Yellow-green has negative aspects like hatred, overly analytical (like nit-picking colour names icon_wink.gif ), inconsiderate, jealousy. But it also has positive aspects like compassion, considerate, good-natured.

So, depending on an individuals colour imbalance, the yellow-gold of RJ will affect people in different ways. However, like I said, I don't believe they have that much influence on the personalities of the membership because we just don't spend enough time on here to be affected.

    Of course not -
though you may agree that subconscoious' eye's awaken anytime - so you don't need contact to be that long

And I don't care about "being affected" - i'm on about is harmony )

I can picture more "athletic" colors instead of the red and gold, such as navy and white, grey and orange, light blue and white, etc. Basically, colors that coordinate to my sneakers. icon_biggrin.gif

Colour therapy, being an alternative healing treatment, falls within the realm of metaphysics. However, it deals with light waves and their affect on the body and psyche. Therefore, to affect any change, whether positive or negative, you do require prolonged exposure to specific colours in order to take on a colours attributes.

So, in my opinion, the brief exposure to the colours of RJ are not enough to create significant changes to the memberships personalities.

With that being said, colour can have an immediate psychological impact on an individual based on their history with a specific colour. For example, if your parents beat you and locked you up in a yellow-gold room as a child, you would have a natural aversion to the colour, which can have an immediate negative impact on you when you log on. The same would be true with a positive association of a specific colour.

I think you need to re-read my first post. The RJ colours coordinate with my walls.

THEY STAY THE WAY THEY ARE!!!
I don't feel like repainting my house.

    ok, you right -
now, look at the main sportswear colours - they work a lot to avoid any such psychological effects

Gold appear in Adidas - it's after Missy Elliot's Respect,
but it's for shine ))))))))) LOL - not for sweat

You win ShawnTO. I'll go out and buy new sneakers that coordinate with RJ's colors. Much cheaper than repainting walls. icon_smile.gif

    Not gold...yellow-green.
    hehe

They're a nice warm mocha actually. I have some mahogany and golden wood pieces, so it all ties in nicely. It's all about the details! icon_wink.gif

Well maybe since there is so much hub-bub over this, maybe realjock can make a setting so that each member can select their own palette.

That way it can still match ShawnTO's walls, but be soothing to kreawiz5's eyes.

Sparkles and glitter. The site needs more sparkles and glitter. Slather it in whatever color you want, so long as there's more sparkles and glitter.

But seriously...I think the current color palette is very...masculine...I suppose. I like it. I agree with jms84 that RJ's recent retention problems might have more to do with a surge in forum-trolling. The meanies don't bother me too much, though...when somebody starts to annoy me, I just close my eyes and imagine them in sparkles and glitter and a pink tutu. Then all is good.

Blue would make me blue, but now that you bring it to my attention, the black, red, and white pallet is very suitable and in sinc with the climate I think the original creators of this site wanted to create: tough, confident, fit, male (alpha male). If I had any one complaint it would be that there is too much white, makes me think of a sanitarium, but after reading some of your post, the sanitarium white seems ...applicable. However, I still think more white than any other color on this site adds a sterility that often soothes me.
