If Mr. Lemon can come out, why can't Anderson Cooper?

Supposedly he's wanted to be out, never uses a beard, and is out to his friends yet...

Maybe hearing about Lemon just made me sour.

Why is it so important for EVERYONE to say their sexuality. It's not like they care if you're out or not. It's not like str8 people say "Here's the News: I'm str8"

It's NOT important that everyone states their sexuality... but the more people, especially those in positions of power and celebrities, that come out, the less of a big deal it is for the 'straight' world to see that we are people just like them.

I think he is out, he's never lied or hid. He just never had an event for it, illustrating to the world it isn't that big of a deal to just be gay.

    Peace,

If this was facebook, I would like this. I think people care too much about the approvals of others rather than just living their own lives. After coming out to some of my straight friends they still gave me th respect that I gave them. Nothing changed. Make your own impression for people to have of you and don't rely on others to make them for you. But eh that's just my philosophy. Plus, having celebrities announce that they're gay really isn't gonna change anything people will still have their own thoughts and stereotypes about gay guys.

Oh REALLY guy above me here? So who decides which people it is important to come out and who doesn't have to? How big of a celebrity do you have to be have "an impact" anyway?

I just love when someone tells US what OUR battles are and then ask OTHERS to fight them for US.

As far as I am concerned, Anderson Cooper has made more of a statement not saying a thing.....and being himself.....while others around him make the "grand statement" (with tell all book, royalties etc.) and proclaim that they are "out".
Anderson Cooper doesn't hide, and he doesn't let his being gay define who he is either. He is a JOURNALIST. He was not put on this earth to fight YOUR battles.
Coming out, not coming out....a personal choice in my humble opinion and not to be decided by anyone else.

Each has there own requirements, options, choices, etc, in their lives.
The fact they both work for the same employer and same career isn't
a reason why both should automatically do the same thing.
It looks like Cooper is "out" with it, but just hasn't acknowledged it.

+1....its not like he hides it when he is out in public. Cooper does not have to inform his audience, it has nothing to do with his job. Let the guy decide how he wants to live his life, just because he is gay does not mean he needs to blast it over the airwaves and be a spokesmen for the cause

It's not easy for people in the media to be out. Especially for a news anchor no matter what market it is (New York the #1 Market or Tulsa Market #65). There's still a stigma on having openly gay people out that read the news. Read Charles Perez's autobiography: "Confessions of a Gay Anchorman," that will explain a lot.

That's because they don't have to since it's assumed and the majority.

Because if nobody did, homosexuality would still be illegal and punishable by death.

I think he does a really good job of never being in a situation where someone is going to ask him on live TV about it.

I'd love for him to come out, a lot of people respect him and it might inch gay recognition along but in all probability it will destroy his career and he'll be forever tainted as having a "gay slant" to all the news he does.

People like him because of the content he discusses on his news shows and the way he presents it. They very much make a judgment that he's qualified to be telling people these things and report on them. If he comes out as gay people are going to find him less credible and he's out of a job.

It sucks, but most of us aren't willing to lose our jobs over gay pride.

Hes a journalist.....a journalists job is basically to be a robot that tells people daily gossip. Nobody cares if the robot is gay.

Maybe because he feels who he is sexuality attracted to doesn't belong on a headline ticker.
