Does anybody remember latin singer Selena? I just heard her most well known English song 'dreaming of you' and wondered how popular she was in the states before she was murdered by a crazed fan? From
Memory she was in the middle of recording her first English album at the time and was a star on the rise predicted to rival the likes of Gloria Estefan.

She was mainly known in the Tejano community. I don't believe too many English-speaking Americans knew who she was until her death and the movie about her with J.Lo. Heh, I'm a Spanish-speaking American and had never heard of her until the movie came out! Perhaps she was a bit more well known in Mexico, but I'd say most of her following was among Mexican Americans in Texas since that's where she was from.

Selena was murdered by the president of her fan club, who was embezzling money.

I knew of her through a Spanish classmate in 4th grade which is the grade I believe she was murdered in.

Liked her music. Granted it gave J-Lo's career some light, but would have loved to see her flourish.

Hm, she was really popular among my friends and I. Dreaming of you is actually one of my favorite songs. It's a shame she died so young, because she had a lot of talent.

I loooooove Selena so much, oh em gee! I only just recently discovered her from this guy I've been liking lately. It's such a sad story about what happened to her...A beautiful young lady who was taken from us in the prime of her life... icon_cry.gif

Dreaming of You moves me like no other song can.

Yeah, I fell in love with her music while working for a year at a Tex-Mex restaurant. She seemed to be on repeat, but I didn't mind. I love "No Me Queda Mas".
