Has anyone had any experience with German Volume Training (GVT)?

I'd like to know whether it's worth following a GVT programme or whether to do another cycle of Hypertrophy Specific Training.

    (Aim being to add muscle).

I had good experiences with HST, but you need to change things around from time to time, so GVT might be an alternative. I think, however, you should look at DC Training. It definitely works.

Thanks Hunkymonkey - I've not heard of DC training, can you point me in the direction of any resources? What sort of gains have you had with it?

I'm setting a target of 85kg by the end of the 8 weeks.

I've had great success with GVTs
Work it into my routine a few times a year to mix thing up. Always kicks my ass but feels so good afterwards.
Works best with a training buddy to keep things moving during the workout

I've read up on DC Training and I've been putting a routine together. I have also had a read up on GVT and I like the sound of that too, and putting a routine together would be quite easy.

I'm torn which one to go for though! What I will probably do is follow one for 6-8 weeks then maybe a week's rest and then switch to the other. Don't know which one to start with though!!

I think that periodization makes more sense than anything - GVT and Dynamic Concepts are really just magnified exclusive approaches to what smart bodybuilders have combined for decades: sarcoplasmic and myofibrilar hypertrophic training methods.

To my mind, a strict adherence to either for long periods of time leads to stasis. Hypertrophic training doesn't mean ignoring volume (endurance) training in favor of power or visa versa. Wisely combined over time they are a sure-fire path to growth.
