I'm starting to take more vitamins and one that has come up from friends is coral calcium. Does anyone here take it? There Are SO MANY brands and kinds to choose fro, I have no idea which is best.I don't eat much dairy other than a glass of milk with dinner, thats about it. Can anyone recommend what i should look for when picking coral calcium?

Coral is just calcium carbonate, the same form of calcium found in oyster shells. The difference is that coral calcium comes from Japan, which gives it an exotic mystique and a higher price. Truth is, calcium carbonate is poorly assimilated by the body. Your money would be better spent on a chelated calcium supplement.

    Or just skim milk.

The coral calcium quack market is the product of snake-oil-selling kooks.

I know you can overdue it on calcium. Is there a suggested intake? Like a number of MG's to take per day? Thanks!

This PDF is from the USDA. On page 2, calcium is listed. Find your age. The amount in the next column is milligrams per day.
