College Dilemma

I feel like my quest to attend a University is never ending. I applied to two schools, San Diego State University and University of California, Santa Barbara, back in November of 2010 and was denied to both. I appealed the decision for UCSB having to write a letter to the admission committee, send in recommendations from teachers and transcripts from my junior college.

    My dilemma is this:
I honestly didn't think my appeal would go through since so many people applied and I'm sure a lot of other people appealed the decision as well. In my search of finding another university to attend in the fall I fell in love with the University of Denver. But I haven't heard back from U of Denver yet so I'm like, CRAP what do I do now... Now I'm stuck on deciding between which school to attend, the one I feel will be the best fit more me and the one that will be worth it in the end.

I think I will submit my intent to register at UCSB until I hear back from Denver...

any advice is much appreciated! Thanks!

I would go ahead with UCSB. I'm guessing school starts in the fall. This means for undergrad I'm pretty sure they would have acceptance letters out by now. The thing is you can always change your mind later.

Yeah, they sent out acceptance letters starting in March but i originally got denied and appealed their decision and they accepted my appeal. The deadline to register is June 1 but I can always cancel the registration if i decide to go to Denver...

I went to DU myself. I loved it there. A bit pricey, but an enjoyable experience.

You should have dedicated yourself more towards your studies that way you would not be in this current predicament. Just my two cents.

first off, you only applied to two schools? always apply to a school which is a "fat chance", a default school and a bunch of schools you really want to go to! that's in the past! go to ucsb! its a super fun campus! also, you dont have another school to chose from so I wouldn't count my chickens before they hatch.

You still have time! If the deadline to register isnt for another 7 weeks, just hang tight until Denver gets back to you.

Ultimately I'd go with whichever one offers you the best education for your money, and in the particular field you think you'd like to study. I think in either school you will make a lot of new friends.

Location-wise I'd choose UCSB over UD but hey, maybe you're more of a mountain guy icon_smile.gif

It might be rude in this particular case but he's right. Admissions are so competitive that a kid has to get on the right track in elementary school. It's hard to walk into an honors or AP class when you're a high school junior or senior if you haven't been in the gifted program all along.

i know im going to sound like THAT guy but... I was THAT kid who failed every class in junior high and was placed in a magnet program in HS. Graduated 68th/89 in my class which was not great btu my school was crazy! Passed every AP class, from high school I entered college as a junior according to credits (didnt take a single GE), was admitted to berkeley, standford and ucla (: no one cares about middle school... its just baby sitting. as long as you have A GREAT SUPPORT SYSTEM (i.e. parents and school faculty).

that and i went to a public school which sends more kids to MIT/Harvard/Yale than any school in LA county both private and public (:
