We have the disc, but I haven't watched it. Only time was in a theatre with my ex-BF when it was released. At least half the audience was gay, and at the "shirt" scene at the end the audience was bawling audibly. It was like being at a funeral service. I'm unmoved by fictional stories, no tears in MY eyes.

But I heard my BF sitting next to me, and he's crying terribly, too. And I thought he was as tough & emotionless outside as I am. Later in the parking lot we were discussing it, along with another couple who went with us. The three of them agreed the shirt scene was heartbreaking. I said: "Well, I dunno, didn't effect me, it was just a shirt, after all."

My ex pounded me all the way to the car. icon_sad.gif No, I don't care for obvious plays for my emotions, and while an otherwise beautiful and landmark film, it had many flaws, too. I didn't like the anal rape scene in the tent, for instance.

Was that actually supposed to be rape though? I think it was supposed to be passionate, hardcore, "i've been waiting so long for this hot ass of yours so i'm gonna tear it up" sex icon_smile.gif

I took it to be rape. Wasn't the other guy asleep or something, and he appeared startled enough and in pain about it. It certainly didn't start off as consensual, as far as I could determine, even if it went to conclusion. And they hadn't planned to sleep together that night, did they? But I'll have to review it now more closely.

It wasn't a rape scene. The "startled guy" was Heath because Jake was rubbing up against it. Jake let Heath bang him and seemed to be in pain alright (probably because there wasn't any lube). As a top, I was turned off by that scene because there probably was a brownie in the oven since Jake didn't have time to clean out. icon_sad.gif A mutual jo/blowjob would've been more realistic but oh well.

Certainly you don't think every sexual encounter involving a penis and an anus starts with an exquisitely fresh, douched anorectum?!?!? Whether gay or straight, there's plenty of 'drop the pants, wear it out' sex going on that doesn't begin with 'preparation'.

And to the issue of 'rape'.... Heath was startled but in a good way. Jake turned over and offered his ass to Heath.... It was the willful culmination of lots of pent up sexual tension... Nothing 'rape' about it

Just finished watching the second half again. It's painful to watch knowing that Health Ledger is gone. When he died, I longed for words from Jake, but he stayed low. To have Jake's character die in the film, and Health die in real life just adds to the sadness. And here Jake is a godfather to his kid.

I was speaking to you... You implied you might vomit at the concept of having anal sex with a brownie in the oven. while I think most people would prefer 'cleaned up' anal sex, I thought it was kinda prissy and disingenuous to suggest you'd vomit. I can now assume you've done it with a brownie in the oven (per your comment about 'having been there'). I also assume you didn't vomit :-)... And you're apparently still alive and no worse for the wear. Congrats!

The tent scene wasn't rape. The movie follows Annie Proulx's short story almost word for word and in the story Jack initiates it by putting Ennis' hand on his dick.

Don't think the original posting suggested we have a mature discussion... It said 'you might want to watch it again'. As with boys and gays, the topic always turns to sex, silliness and off-color humor. We're just having a little fun. You can start a mature bokeback discussion thread if you like.... But knowing realjock, I bet it won't stay on topic for long.

Because porn is shallow, maybe it gives you something in commionicon_wink.gif
Brokeback Mountain is a deep movie about the complexities of bisexual love, and their confusion.

I say vom as a humorous thing. Not literal. Let's just make that clear.

If you think "Brokeback" is depressing, you should read the whole book. Every story in it was about terrible things happening to trailer trash in Wyoming. But it's all worth it, because at least they live in Wyoming.

Most of Annie Proulx's male characters are strange buffoons who act irrationally and violently for no reason. It's like she's writing about alien beings that she doesn't understand. Almost a form of science fiction.
