For some reason this guy's an icon and I can't figure it out.

For some reason lots of people like his NPR show (Prairie Home Companion) and I just think it's the lamest thing I've ever heard.

I'm doing some work in my home office today and turned on NPR and unfortunately his horrible show is on.

I've never heard anything remotely funny on it on the rare occasions I've stumbled across it and today it's true to form.

    The music is white-trash horrible.

And his voice is so affected it's repulsive, it's like listening to fingernails against a blackboard.

Five minutes of this and I went from good mood to bad.

Yes, I know, I can just turn it off, which I'm about to do. But I'm forcing myself to listen to it for at least ten minutes, because it's so incredibly dumb, dull, unfunny and worthless I can't believe what I'm hearing.

His ramblings are amusing at best, and hardcore Midwestern. The only segment of Prairie Home Companion I find funny really is Guy Noir, but like I said- it's okay.

But the music is far from white trash.

    ...I like him.

I really appreciate his ability to tell a story, I find it's a very rare thing for people to do well.

Not to mention his ramblings on English majors give me a great laugh icon_lol.gif

Ah well, different people different opinions - no right or wrong answer.

I met him personally when he appeared at the Oregon Bach Festival. A bit soporific, I suppose. But I actually like him. He's a nice guy. And he can really tell stories.

Well he's particularly popular with his Lutheran audience in the the mid west. His 'old time' show style and humor is a reminder for an older crowd of how it was and how they'd like it to be. I've listened to it and find it very 'old fashion' and pretty un-entertaining for even my age.

On a side note, I met a guy in our company that was a splitting image of this guy...unbelievable resemblance. Poor guy. He was much younger than Keillor.

GK is boring because he is an ideologue and a drone . . your first clue about his humorlessness should have been NPR . . . .
