What do you eat/drink before a long run?

This may seem pretty obvious but after cutting down in coffee and drinking milk all day, I seem to have a better run...

ATP is produced via the oxidative system during aerobic exercise, ergo it relies on carbs and fat.

Therefore, it's best to eat something such as whole grain pasta with olive oil.

I usually do a long run in the morning...so I'll have a bagel (with peanut butter) or oatmeal. Maybe a cliff bar or the like. I'll fuel with goo or gel blocks for runs over 15 miles and make sure that I'm drinking a sports drink mix like Gatorade, Accelerade or similar during my run. Then I top it off with Endurox R4 for a recovery drink afterwards.

That's very close to what I do for long runs. If you don't eat something before you run, you won't starve but it's wise to be well hydrated or have water stashed along the way

I prefer running in the morning and don't like a lot in my stomach. I have a pretty consistent ritual of eating a few spoonfuls of yogurt beforehand. I make sure that I'm plenty hydrated as well.

I try not to go longer than 16 miles without having some sort of supplement. Not a big fan of gels so have the jellybeans instead.

Post run, I love chocolate milk and fresh fruit as a second choice. Awesome.

Water as all have said above. Foodwise I like to eat 30 minutes before a run, otherwise if I feel like a run and haven't eaten in a while, I'll do some trail mix or toast with peanut butter and slices of banana.

After I like Powerade and milk along with gummy worms. If the run in longer than 13 miles I'll pack in some Jelly Bellies.

I usually eat some yogurt or drink a protein shake mixed in water...Sometimes if I'm truly hungry I'll mix up some cream of wheat with milk then melt some natty p. into it and some splenda...BUD
