Earth has been around long before us and will likely be here well after we are extinct as a species; she has weathered far worse disasters than her current infection of humanity upon her surface.
What we need in the short run is to:
Drill our own oil and reserving it to ourselves instead of exposing it to the global market, increase coal extraction and liquefaction, shale oil processing, methane clathrate harvesting, and natural gas extraction.
Longer term goals should be setting up 100km^2 solar convection turbines and reflector boilers in the desert, and perhaps off-shore solar collector ships from obsolete or soon-to-be stricken fleet assets that can be separated from the naval inventory.
And add wind power and other gap measures to reduce our dependence on foreign oil.
