True_blue_aussie saidWell we are now considered a progressive society, and no more a barbaric one. So Child Abuse in the form of genital mutilation should be banned the world over, as with little girls too.
Now I know some would say, "well I had it done, and I remember nothing and it's done me no alleged harm." But a child could be molested and they behold no memory of that, and it could never ever be said no wrong was done unto them, or it never done them any harm.
Stop the child abuse of Genital Mutilation Now. Also men look much better with the hood still on too.
are you comparing having your foreskin removed to being sexually molested?
They are both a non-consensual.
You're infringing on the religious freedom of Jewish parents whose faith tradition requires circumcision. What happened to less government regulation?
As a born and raised conservative Jew, I have to go against my people to say that circumcision is a moderately outdated practice and should be open to debate. I don't think Judaism is immune to a law as logical as this one.
Circumcision only circumvents health related issues from having a foreskin 5% of the time. So it's really not necessary all the time. And the "but it's cleaner" mentality is socially constructed. If you clean under the foreskin like you should do with the rest of your body you won't get infections. Same thing with your teeth. I don't hear people argue, "well let's just circumcise the teeth off so that way we don't risk getting cavities."
The whole "but it's their religious belief" doesn't work because with our knowledge and technology of today it shouldn't be forced on kids to get part of their penises cut off, a part of the body that is very sensitive. You can compare this to getting piercings in ears as a kid, but there's not really any evidence showing that piercing your ear loses any physiological perception or well-being whatsoever. Evidence arguably shows chopping off the foreskin loses psychological sensitivity. And physiologically speaking you do have a ring of neurons at the tip of the foreskin that gets chopped off with the foreskin. So circumcision, on a neurological level, does have a lasting impact.
So no. "But it's for religious purposes" is not immune to every law and changing society.
