Florida Gov. Rick Scott Uses Sheriffs To Eject ‘Liberal-Looking’ People From Budget Signing Event In Town Square

How could signing a state budget in a public square be considered a private event? Is that legal?

This isn't anything new for the coward. Obviously he's scared of the public. Here's an article on him signing a bill for merit pay for teachers and ending tenure for new hires.

He signed this bill in a privately owned charter school.

My guess is that he gets privately owned business to invite him over to sign these controversial measures so he only has to be confronted by the people these businesses allow to enter their property.

He has a 29% approval rating and became governor solely to enrich himself and his friends. What do you expect? I'm surprised he hasn't appeared in a tower telling Floridians to "eat cake."

    I unfortunately live in Florida
and there's a huge disconnect on what is happening to it's economy .... and how to fix it

Much of the State is typical Red State Mugwump country
where there is blind allegiance to the republican way of thinking and it's been a real albatross to any kind of true economic policy that makes sense

But ... you get what you deserve when you vote these kind of people in

So, I'm at a bit of a loss to explain why his approval rating is so low .

To me it should be lower
So go head ... explain why it should be higher

Is there any typical appearence for Liberalsicon_question.gif How is the right wing, lunatic governor of Florida going to know if you are a liberalicon_question.gif The man is obviously paranoid of people with differing political and social views.

In the absence of any readily available news on what Scott is doing, I would expect that his approve / disapprove ratings would be more along the lines of how the percentages broke out for the election. For so many who voted for him to have apparently soured on him without much coverage of what Scott has actually been doing for the past few months is the mystery here.

I don't even live in Florida and I've heard plenty of what he's up to, including forcing state workers to have drug tests, when his company just so happens to provide the drug testing, or the deals he's making with for-profit charter school managers, while lowering funding-per-child for public education.

What else do they need to know to understand that he's a corporate hack who wants to use his position as governor to enrich himself and his friends?

Florida along with all the other right wing controlled southern states will continue to reelect oppressive politicians from the extreme right wing of the GOP. Moderates and progressives from the democratic, republican, and other alternative parties need not apply. After all most of the South is becoming one giant theocracy.

There you have it in a nutshell

    http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/05/24/2233841/poll-rick-scott-among-the-least.html
“The data on the perceived fairness of the governor’s budget is crucial. When voters by almost 2-1 say his approach is unfair to them, that’s a giant flashing political warning sign for Scott,” Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, said in a written statement. “When voters don’t think they are being treated fairly, they tend to react negatively.”

Apparently his goons were looking for people in the audience who were wearing buttons or other devices that were anti-Scott, anti-Republican, or pro-Liberal, and a few carried signs critical of the State budget he was signing. Most of those ejected, according to news reports, were elderly residents of The Villages retirement center where the signing event was held, not outside agitators. Evidently the ordinarily public Town Square at the complex there became private for this staged event, which seems exceptional, if not unprecedented.

Staged to the extent that school kids from one of Scott's pet charter schools were bused in, apparently on a Thursday school day. Then handed prepared signs to wave, that were meant to look home-made. Students were also led in chants of support by Scott staffers. It hasn't been reported yet if any of the words included: "Oh great and glorious leader, Father of our State!" icon_razz.gif
