I was in the Bahamas last month and was at Atlantis Paradise Island Resort for the afternoon of March 27. I rode a bunch of the water slides and had a blast.

A few days later, my hips/very low back starting feeling stiff and achy. It's April 11 and they are still pretty sore and stiff, especially in the morning or if I have been sitting too long.

I have full range of motion with no real pain, just the overall soreness. Should I be worried?

    Hi Tim,

I had pain such as you are describing for several months once - and finally went to a doctor at Stanford (Edward Weiss) who practiced accupuncture. I went every week for awhile - tapering off until I no longer needed treatment. Dr. Weiss indicated accupuncture helped approximately 80% of his patients - from sports injuries to arthritis sufferers. I was skeptical at first - until my first treatment - what a difference. I wonder if this would help you?

have you thought about going to a chiropractor? I have a friend who adjusts me once a week and it does wonders for my body. Also helps my arthritis, which I have in several joints from swimming for so many years. Alwqays worth a try...

I haven't thought about a chiropractor, that might be a good idea.

You may have tweaked it in a way that you got a pinched nerve. I had this happen several years ago. I was having dull aches and pains from my shoulder blades to the small of my back.

It wasn't necessarily affecting my life or all that painful. It was more annoying than anything and made me feel less than 100%.

I finally went and had it checked out and it was a pinched nerve. I never would have guessed that because my impression was that a pinched nerve always caused sharp intense pain. But apparently not.

It resolved itself eventually, but it took about four months. Stretching helped lessen the pains.

    MMMMM Great advice!
I have the same problem from bending over a potters wheel. I do alot of stretching. laying on my back and pulling my knees to my chest helps and anything that stretches your glutes will help. Good luck.

Go for the massage as well. Love Lavender!

dont mean this to sound funny but a friend of mine complained about this when they got back from one US water park.

For the sake of stomachs shall we say that the water at the bottom of the slides wasnt the cleanest it should have been, with the exhiliration of speed and laughing at the fun of it a fair amount of water was ahem injested but not orally.

Needless to say they actually picked up a water borne bacteria that affected the liver and kidneys, nothing serious that a course of antibiotics didnt sort out but could be worth checking out

On a water slide. it is maybe the one time, a male needs to keep his legs tightly crossed. To stop the douche effect.

And I was just going to say you're not 20 anymore Tim but after reading the rest of these posting I'm starting to feel ill! Seriously, I think if it feels like "internal" pain, see a doctor, if it feels like pulled muscle, use something on it or just soak a bit, take it easy and chalk it up to not doing those types of moves very often. Perhaps you need to slide more often from here on out!

    Good luck bud.
