The Second Biggest Cause of Car Accidents Behind Fatigue?

Of course the focus of legislators has been on cellphones. The irony is that the second largest cause of accidents is... busybodies... (rubber necking is one of my pet peeves): http://www.bakadesuyo.com/are-many-car-crashes-caused-by-drivers-distra

A study by researchers at Virginia Commonwealth University found that the second-leading cause of distraction-related crashes (behind fatigue) was “looking at crashes, other roadside incidents, traffic, or other vehicles."

This would be a study in VA haha. Rubbernecking is SO bad there. I don't find it anywhere near as bad in NYC (when you compare the volume of traffic).

Following too closely and distractions (texting, cell phones, CD player, etc.) are the biggest causes of accidents.
    Oh, and women drivers. LOL.

I truly thought your answer was going to be Sucking Cock.
It is so distracting! I've had to pull off to the side of the road several times.
I guess you can tell where my mind is at.

Speak for yourself jpcrabbymiserable. Your senility makes you a grave danger on Florida's roads and highways.

jprichva saidRubbernecking is a serious problem in Florida, too. Particularly as we have so many elderly drivers who don't have great reflexes when it comes to stopping quickly.

True, we do have way too many "Looky Lou's" that must slow down and view every accident scene on the roads, however, it is not the elderly ones that cause the accidents. It's the slow, slow drivers of EVERY age that cause the problems.

If the Pokalong Cassidys would drive the speed limit (or over it--I'm happy with that), there would be less back-ups and accidents. And lastly, please don't drive so f*cking slow in the fast lane!!

All of the DC area (particularly Northern Virginia) is notorious for terrible traffic and extremely aggressive drivers. Sometimes I think it's a miracle that I'm still all in one piece after spending a day on the road.

Driving here is definitely not for lightweights. If you ever find yourself around here either to visit or simply passing through, it will be an absolute nightmare. May the forces be with you.

Congestion is not due to slow drivers. It's due to drivers who want to race all the other cars on the road by consistently going a pointless 5 MPH faster than the surrounding traffic, resulting in a few cars constantly either tailgating or passing. This would not happen if people chilled out and went with the flow of traffic.

Sorry to have a different opinion here, but you should drive in Orlando sometime. It is utterly annoying to see people drive 20-25 miles under the speed limit all the bleeping time!! And laying on my horn and flashing the brights doesn't faze them either. I wish people here would drive like they do in LA.....I have to build in an extra 30 minutes in my commuting time because of slow drivers.

I'm with turtleneckjock on this one. While the cars that zip in, out and around traffic create their own dangers, congestion isn't one of them (unless they are cutting things so close as to cause everyone around them to slam on the breaks).

It's a problem of flux. One car driving 45mph on the freeway can cause a lot of local congestion (behind them) and a lot of open road (in front of them).

Overall, a problem is speed differentials (which is why I frown on trucks having a lower speed limit than cars).

Shhh! Are you trying to get hot guys outlawed?!
