So I pretty much just discovered this today, so I apologize if I'm a little late to board the cold shower bandwagon, but I thought I'd share this with you guys who are looking to lose weight.

Apparently, taking cold showers are believed to stimulate fat loss.

    http://www.livestrong.com/article/154168-how-to-lose-weight-with-cold-showers/

Anybody else try this? Supposedly only 10 minutes of this can burn up to 100 calories. I'm obviously gonna stick to weights/cardio, but I think I'll squeeze in 10 minutes a day and see if I can speed up results!

EDIT: Changed title due to Paradox icon_smile.gif can't read it the correct way anymore.

Also, keep in mind i'm not advocating this. I just thought it was interesting and wanted to post it. Some posters have misunderstood me and seem to think I'm all about it.

I don't like taking cold showers. Does swimming in a pool with relatively colder water temperature do the same thing? I do swim from time to time.

The hell I'm spending 10 minutes under cold running water to burn a measly 100 calories. Are they even 100 calories of pure fat? Even if they were I'd still need 3400 more just to lose a single lb of fat.

I take cold showers to close my pores, but I didn't know about this. I'll keep doing it, just one more quirky gimmick: a glass of water before bed beautifies your skin, hot foods and drinks raise your metabolism, and your own urine makes your hair shinier. It's true that all these remedies work. ...Do not leave in, rinse immediately, crazy. icon_smile.gif

Does it work if another guy pees on you? I'd love to kill two birds with one stone by getting my watersport fix and adding bounce and shine to my hair all at once!

Good lord, I wasn't, but your urine is supposed to have medicinal qualities and the vitamins and minerals flushed out in there because your body had absorbed its limit are supposed to be still viable so all you thrifty people out there who, like me, think multi vitamins are too expensive to flush down the toilet...just shoot it like the piss water it is. icon_surprised.gif Ariodante, love how you think and when you talk dirty.

It just goes to show that people will believe anything they read without question.

Of course this works; it's never been a secret.

-Oh yeah, urine and cold water is good for the hair and skin because it smoothes the cuticle and restores pH.

-I rinse my face with my own urine every now and then.

Confused. It just goes to show that people will believe anything they read without question? Shouldn't this type of response be applied to something that is NOT true?

It should be. It's just me being bitchy like I am most days of the week. The article shows no evidence, but people will go ahead and believe it because it's been 'published'. It's a very redundant article. It's like if I published an article saying smoking increases social interaction. Somebody will go out and buy a pack of cigarettes.

I just googled it and posted the first article I saw. I read the original article in a fitness mag that had two to three pages of information on it. It was kind of bitchy of you, but we all are at times.

Hope your day gets better. icon_smile.gif

    Are you nuts ?
    Seriously.

If something this simple really worked, you'd see every fat woman in the world, soaking in a tub full of ice cubes.

It doesn't mean that it's a miracle cure, you have to endure a cold shower for 10 minutes to burn off the equivalent of one oreo.

    LMFAO!!!

And, really, aren't there some studies out there that indicate sitting in a sauna helps burn off fat too?

It's bullshit alright....I was taught at uni brown adipose tissue was only present in infants...

Some studies in 2007-2008 found some remaining in adults...tiny amounts around your neck and blood vessels in your chest. But most textbooks haven't caught up.

Translation=> that spare tire around your waist or women's hips is pure white lard...no amount of stimulating a palm full of brown adipose tissue burried deep in your neck/chest will shift that PERIOD

But WAIT...there is some hope. There is a pharmaceutical that does exactly that

    120px-Dintrophenol.svg.png

Meet DNP, or dinitrophenol... most of you will have never heard of it...but many will have seen Willie Coyote trying to blow up that road runner with a close friend TNT (trinitrotoluene)

Anyway around 1940's Drs noticed that women working in factories making WW2 explosives were loosing a lot of weight and pegged it down to the DNP they were turning into TNT for shells to blast the nazis with.

The point is DNP will chemically insert it's self into the mitochondrial membrane, uncouple the chain and release energy and turn the white adipose spare tire tissue to brown and put anyone's metabolism into overdrive...

Why don't we use this as a weight loss drug? Well many people do (and a few kill themselves, damage their brains or go blind) The FDA tested it and found out it accumulates and dissipates slowly. A dose will be in your system for a week or two before it's broken down and released and that's a big NO for any FDA approved pharmaceutical, Also the lethal dose is too low, one pill will make you slimmer, but 4 will kill you.

Mammals when exposed to water below their body temperature build fat . Check out pics of cold water swimmers for example polar bear" swim clubs.,"

    This.

If a fat woman can't get off her ass to exercise for 20 minutes a day, why would she endure ice cubes?
