When it comes to the immigration, why do we need borders? I believe all walks of life should be welcomed in America. Afterall our ancesters got to come here. America should get rid of its borders.

If there were no borders, how would the federal, state, and local governments manage the sudden influx?

Our resources would be taxed. And let's face it, governance at all levels have difficulty in managing the population as it is right now.

You also have to consider the future generations. Look at the demand of the baby boomers. Now imagine the requirements needed to sustain their children. You think we can handle the floodgate being open?

That’s one of most ridiculous statements I’ve read. However just from an environmental prospective, what do think the quality of life would be with 800,000,000 or so inhabitants in this country? And given the fact that most not knowing a thing about OUR language, culture or customs so what would happen to the United States as we knew it at one time?. What would happen to our wide open spaces in the Rocky Mountain states and west. What about ground, water and air pollution? Hell, I much preferred it 40 years ago when we had about 100,000,000 fewer folks in this country.

Otherwise, with the hoards of Asians and Mexicans flooding into the US, we'd be a country as poor and crowded as Bangladesh.

This comes down to the fact that people in this country make way too much money. The rich need to pay more in taxes so we can have more people in this country and everyone can enjoy a decent lifesyle.

As liberal as I am, I don't think I can complain and say people make way too much money. I don't bemoan someone making a lot of money if they are doing it legally and ethically. Though I do support the progressive tax and think we should do away with the Bush tax cuts since they obviously didn't help when he was in office. Why people think they will help now — I don't know.

However, even if we get more money from the rich, that doesn't mean we can sustain a sudden influx of people with open borders. We have to be able to manage that increase. And as I said before, jurisdictions are having a hard time managing populations as they are.

Exactly. It goes with the whole anti-trust/monopoly thing we enacted in the 1910s-1930s.

    .

So that's why we had the longest period of uninterrupted job growth of 52 months and longest uninterrupted period of GDP growth of 26 quarters in the nation's history .

    lol, is this a joke?

Welfare and safety net programs and open immigration cannot exist simultaneously. So if you want welfare then you can't have open borders, otherwise, if you can convince everyone that we shouldn't have welfare and safety nets then by all means, I'm for open borders!

As facetious as you were trying to be this is actually correct, but you could have added Russians too, it would make no difference.

    claude that's an insane proposal.
I have a friend here in Canada that once proudly announced this.
I informed her our social net would promptly collapse and taxation would go sky-high. You'd also have a stunning influx of criminals.

As for taxes, if people were in fact making enough money taxes wouldn't be an issue, but they're not.

It creates jobs for border patrol people so they can get stoned on Mexican bud they took as a bribe for letting them jump the fence.

Exactly. You should try explaining this to Bill Clinton, the proponents of NAFTA, and the entire engineering/high-tech sector. They don't quite seem to get it...http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/07/25/gates_us_immigration_huge_mistake_india/

Oh wait...they only want EDUCATED immigrants to come here. Figures icon_rolleyes.gif

Not only should we be welcoming educated immigrants, but people from all walks of life. The people who come here are doing no harm to anyone and should be able to do what they want.

HA! The joke is on me. A few days ago when Claude23 was engaging with one of the FAKE extra profiles of the Conserva-posse, I wrote to clue him in.

He didn't respond......and now I can see why.

As someone recently wrote me, it's actually comforting to know that in reality the Conserva-posse is only made up of TWO BUSY GUYS with a dozen profiles. Ahhhh, you boys do have plenty of time on your hands!

Well. just for starters, what if Barnes & Noble is out of stock on the book you want?

That, and competition is important in encouraging growth in a capitalist economy.

I usually enjoy your posts PresentMind. You are right about so many things. I do have a lot of time on my hands mostly because I have no job. I would probably have a job if Obama's job bill got passed, but thanks to the tea bagger and the GOP that wont happen.
