First week "Born This Way" sales expected to surpass 1 mil.

    http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/music_blog/2011/05/lady-gaga-born-this-way-1-million-sales.html

No song on it may be better than the all-time favorite, Bad Romance, but unlike the last CD, every song on this one is either exceptional or superb. They're just simply good songs, and despite the fact that I somewhat dislike her style in her music videos and public appearances, I think Gaga is one of the best singers in modern music history, and in no way am I saying this because I'm gay or that she supports gay rights, because there are other people (politicians, musicians, actors) I would rather have as spokespersons for us.

You can say that she copies and steals from this and that, but I interpret it as being influenced by. Other than her expression of sexuality, I don't see where she copies Madonna, or how on earth Born This Way is even remotely similar to Express Yourself, a great song itself.

Personally I'm iffy with half of the tracks, and the other half I like. I guess the iffy ones will grow on me with due time. She's not as bad as I thought she'd be. That's for sure.

To be fair, part of the reason for the huge sales was that Amazon was selling the entire album for 99 cents. Having said that, Gaga has built enough of a loyal following to guarantee good opening numbers regardless.

Marketing people behind her done good though to snag the silly faggots, that's for sure...icon_eek.gif Yes I said faggot, big deal get over it.

Her singing is lounge quality at best, alone, so really not that great but you know throw in a mixer and artificial tones and beats and the silly faggots will come a running and screaming for more...

Now just watch the flame war begin icon_rolleyes.gif

I agree with that idea. While the other album always had at least one given track at any given time that i thought was the most amazing song I'd ever heard (Never mind that the song changed every week or two), this one is full of a lot of songs I like a lot but none of them that have really set themself out to be my favorite. There are a few songs that have yet to grow me (Highway Unicorn, The Queen) and at least two that had to be played a couple of times before they stopped being annoying (Marry the Night, Fashion of His Love).. but no Telephone, no Bad Romance, no Monster.

However, I disagree with your opinions of her style of dress and music videos. Her music is marketted to shallow club people, while her visual style is marketted to all of us eccentrics. She figured out that it was better to sell to the Majority AND the Minority, rather than just focus on one. If only even just because then you don't have to figure out which side is actually the minority anymore.

I wonder which voices you consider talented. The awful squawk of Spears? The less money making, "more" rebellious punk labels? If her singing is lounge singing at best (And trust me, I live in Las Vegas, so I know better than almost anyone what Lounge Singers sound like, and they do NOT sound like Gaga), then what IS the hope for the music industry?

And yes, I needed someone like her. Are you willing to argue that ANYONE listens to music for ANY reason other than they connect with it?

    Delusional.

If you don't see how she copies Madonna, then you're just delusional. It's not coincidence. It's not accidental. It's more than intentional.

But congrats to her for a successful first-week sales total. I'm sure Amazon's .99 promotion helped alot, but she still would have sold tons.

On the flip side, she might be on the path to fading quickly now. Her outrageous image choices are already growing thin on alot of people, whereas, before, it was interesting. She's already on her 3rd single and the album was just released. This, compared to the singles from her first album, which all showed tremendous longevity on radio.

I'm sorry then you are weak, and hopeless. Go be bitter someplace else,

I am a strong person, without the bible, without gaga. I love her, but she isn't my goddess. I don't know why you have such hatred, but this isn't the place fr it.

Can you name a single artist that hasn't "copied" someone to your broad standards? At least unlike all of the "original" talent you seem to be comparing her to, at least she has OPENLY ADMITTED that she wanted her music to feel like all of the great hits we all grew up with in the 80's and 90's. Its funny--everyone compares her to Madonna. But am I the only person to notice she is more like the female Michael Jackson (With the freedom of androgyny that he couldnt get away with) with hints of Madonna's style than the other way around?

Whatever. I can bet all of you were the popular kids in high school, and base your ideas on talent on your own condescending ideals rather than what is good for people.

You know there was life before music constantly playing and or running to when you stubbed your toe and thought the world was out to get you icon_rolleyes.gif

I personally sit in peace and quiet most days because most of the music is geared towards stereotypical people and groups. Although that was a very nice attempt at a half decent slam, better than most of the other gaga babies in here icon_twisted.gif

I grew up in a private school with the same one hundred angry bigotted christian republicans. I almost got sent to one of those camps where they cure gay people. I can assure you, it had nothing to do with stubbing my toe, nor to do with music on the radio. The world I knew WAS out to get me--You try being the only gay pagan at a high school of beverly hills sarah palin clones. You think its easy?

In fact, I have done performing arts and costumed philosophical forums all my life. Before I cared a lick about music, or about who was the latest pop star, I was one of those antisocial artists that cared more about what I was telling people than how much they judged me for it (But I did care a LOT about how much they judged me).

You, in your safe little bubble protected from people who think VASTLY different from you.. you'd have no idea why its nice to hear a pop artist, making millions, standing up for me rather than making fun of me and making people hate me.

Here's the thing dude... you win. not because you're "right" or anything, but because this is pointless. Nothing anyone can say will change your mind, and you seem set out to deliberately pick a fight with people for personal reasons that you're manifesting in a Lady Gaga diatribe. So good for you! You're on RJ trying to put down a woman who has never heard of you and made more money in the last half-hour than you will make all year. Hate all you want about everything, but remember that she doesn't give a crap about you, and if you think I do because I'm actually somewhat paying attention, then think again. So yes, you win. Now don't let any houses fall on you on your way out.

Aww how cute you were part of the outcast, you know its rather sad when you have to dig back from high school in order to mentally adjust as to where people have their point of view, rather then consider they are individuals to begin with...hmm hey wait...I wonder if that's how she...naw she wouldn't go that low would she...I mean she is "talented" enough on her own...naw she wouldn't gear songs would she...I mean that would mean she has no real talent and or ability...but clearly she does because her songs are personal to her...I mean she's gone through what her songs are about right...hmm oh well either way awesome marketing from her people icon_neutral.gif

All you have done is proven what I said--You had it easy. You never HAD to dig into your childhood because it was easy. You were spoiled, and you think everyone is weak because their hard lives make them squirm and reflect more than you and your plastic-packaged, mainstream world. You never had to face it, so you don't think anyone who did is validated. I have always been an individual, or did you ignore that part of my post? I have been doing what Gaga has been doing since I was 15. It isnt that I heard her message and converted to Gagaism--Its that I was pleasantly suprised to know that MY culture can claim the worlds most influential celebrity as its own. I have ALWAYS been an artist--I used myth, fairy tales, and stories to teach people morals and logic (Hence the silly name Sin Elf). It didn't take Gaga to make me who I am, it took Gaga to make me realize that bigots like you are now the minority and I can feel safer going to school not having to worry about self-loathing people like you being in control.
