How To Fix Damaged External Drive

    Step 1: Google for videos on how to take the damn thing apart.
    Step 2: Follow the instructions found in Step 1.
    Step 3: Plug it in and connect it to the computer.
    Step 4: Wiggle stuff around on the circuit board till it starts working.
    Step 5: Leave it taken apart until you can get a soldering iron and solder the inductor coil back into place.

    PSA: Don't put your external drive in with your luggage to ship it places. FedEx will throw it around and fuck your shit up, even if it's marked as "fragile."

    I remember Popular Mechanics and National Instruments developed some hardware and software to rate the major carriers on how they handled packages. But I sounds like you didn't need a scientific study to know that FedEx treats packages like crap, especially if they are marked "fragile".
