Straight Talk Excess: John McCain called wife "cunt", "trollop"
John McCain called his wife Cindy a "cunt" in front of at least five witnesses on the campaign trail in 1992, according to Cliff Schecter's new book:

Three reporters from Arizona, on the condition of anonymity, also let me in on another incident involving McCain's intemperateness. In his 1992 Senate bid, McCain was joined on the campaign trail by his wife, Cindy, as well as campaign aide Doug Cole and consultant Wes Gullett. At one point, Cindy playfully twirled McCain's hair and said, "You're getting a little thin up there." McCain's face reddened, and he responded, "At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt." McCain's excuse was that it had been a long day. If elected president of the United States, McCain would have many long days. [The Real McCain, PoliPoint Press, 2008.]

    Saucy!

Granted, I have not had much trust in McCain since the 2000 electoral campaign and the subsequent unmasking of his "straight talk" as opportunism.

In lieu of people dealing with his two-facedness, I hope that his unpresidential temper will undo him for them.

In my unsupportive opinion, McCain is only useful as a candidate to the extent he upstages the reactionary authoritarianism that's plaguing the States and the Republican Party.

Maybe the point here is that this potential next first lady IS a cunt and a trollop. But that would make this potential next president a fuck and a schmuck.

There are many many reports, from legitimate publications and stretching beyond decades, re: McCain's explosive temper. He had a reputation for that during high school.

It's one thing when you're fighting for a cause and your deep beliefs bring forth passion and perhaps a degree of anger or sarcasm. It's quite another to slam your wife (or anybody) in such a degrading way. Particularly during such an innocuous conversation.

Most disturbing (at least to me): Name-calling to that degree is rarely a one-time event. It's probably happened to her a lot. That's abuse. He has probably put her through hell.

This is out-of-control behavior. Anyone who can't handle their emotions any better than that shouldn't be in charge of ANYTHING.

I am willing to suffer through 8 years of record debt, a crumbling infrastructure, and an unjust war. But I RUFUSE to have a president who uses naughty language!

I could tolerate the nasty language but I refuse to have a first lady who's a trollop and a cunt. If she was just a trollop OR a cunt, I think I could manage, but the combination of the two is really really toxic.

    John,

You are right, it is a non-issue, but it isn't partisan either. I mean, Cliff Scheceter is a regular contributor to Huffington Post: where front page news is an opinion piece written by that guy from the show Wings.

Can't you let the democrats on this board have a good chuckle. It is only fair after Elliot Spitzer's debacle. ^_~

I actually think it IS an issue. There are some very antagonistic world leaders out there and I really don't want a US president who will flip out and go into a foul-mouthed tirade during private meetings at the G-8 or during tense summit meetings when he gets needled.

I believe the allegations because they've been corroborated (sic). Also, McCain's pretty famous for his trigger temper. Also, the guy is a victim of PTSD. Not a guy very much in control. Also, he married a trollop and a cunt.

Using obscenity isn't the issue. That's missing the point. The issue is a guy who consistently explodes with irrational remarks and over-the-top behavior when he's barely been touched. That's the problem.

I completely disagree with those of you who seem to be suggesting that a candidate's behavior -- rational or not -- is a "non-issue." OF COURSE it's an issue. We're not electing a party platform or a series of policy recommendations. We're electing a President. And his/her personality will have enormous impact on decisions made while in office.

And if you don't think so. . . well, let's paraphrase an earlier poster. . .

We're in the midst of "eight years of record debt, a crumbling infrastructure, and an unjust war." And guess who helped get us there?? A slacker alcoholic President, alledgedly "in recovery" but admittedly untreated -- and clearly weighed down with every bit of the psychological baggage that term implies. Don't you think either of these personality issues might have SOMETHING to do with his consistently horrific decisions?

Like most alcoholics, he is too insecure to admit when in error; instead, he camouflages his insecurity by labeling it "resolve." Like most slackers, he shows utter contempt at the notion of mastering any facts he needs to govern; instead, he labels his astounding incuriosity as irrevelant, since he has "natural good judgement" and "knows people," whatever that's supposed to mean -- two undefinable credits that mediocre people award themselves to justify remaining ignorant.

There is a clear connection between the debacles of 9/11, Afghanistan, Iraq, Katrina, the economy -- and the strange personality of this ne'er-do-well.

Admittedly, McCain is different from Bush, certainly brighter, but still, it seems, a screwball -- just screwy in a different way. I guess, for McCain, it's his notion of "change."

John, I don't know why this should bother you so bad, do you remember a guy last name of ROVE? you remember, he's the one that got the "SWIFT BOAT" affair going, against Kerry, and before that he was the author of the story against McCain about his illigitimate mixed black child. Rupugnicans should be well versed on how to take rumors, and slander, they wrote the book on the subject during bushes two campaigns and in between too !!!

I am hugely anti-McCain but this sort of thing is just so ridiculous. "Don't vote for him because he once used a naughty word eighteen years ago!" Are you kidding me?

What worries me, as a Patriotic American, are these radical extremist trollops and cunts. They, and all the other enemies and potential enemies, are plotting for the destruction of our freedom and our Big Gulp lifestyle. I believe that for a true American patriot, who loves their country, you need to constantly be on guard for all of your enemies, who are legion. One slip, like admitting that we don't always like our country 110% of the time, is a victory for our enemies.

    K

    Enemies!

    ...

    ENEMIES!

    EVERYWHERE!

    ENEMIES ALL!

    STRENGTH THROUGH FEAR!

    AND VIOLENCE!

    OR THREATENED VIOLENCE!

    WHATEVER!

I have to agree with PhnxAriz, and innerathlete, I want anyone but McCain for our next president, but this story is picking at straws isn't it. Couldn't miss a chance to give the repugnicans a rough time though !!! LOL !!!!! McGay !!! I can see McCain doing a little "FLAG OPERATION" so he can "
BOMB BOMB BOMB----IRAN" Can you??????? I think it would be right up his alley to exagerate (like Bush has already started on) things with Iran, to bomb them. The guy scares me !!!!
