I thought it was ok. But only ok.

I didn't like the majority of casting choices, and I thought the dialogue was rather limp - there wasn't any good jokes, nothing particularly moving, nothing massively thrilling.

The plot was ok, but I think they could have made a lot more of the 60's setting.

I didn't like the behaviour of some of the characters, it didn't make sense.

Would definitely say it's the weakest of the X-Men films. Worth a watch but don't have high expectations. A couple of fun cameos but in some ways that just made me pine for the originals more.

As a side note, have a close look at the crotch of the guy playing Magneto when he's wearing some of the high-waisted, tight 60's trousers. There's some very noticeable outlines of his dick - a pleasant distraction from the film icon_razz.gif

I won't even bother seeing it. Too many changes fromt he comic for this one to be appealing at all for me.

The series ended with X2, I pretend the travesty that was 3 never happened, and this just looks too different to make any sense.

I actually liked X3, despite it's flaws, and it's definitely better than X:FC.

I was looking forward to seeing Emma Frost but although she somewhat looks the part, the character was definitely underused and she did not have the attitude I associate with Emma.

Watched it last night, I thought it was good, really enjoyed it, kept a good pace, focused on all the right things, unlike X3 which had so many pointless side stories. January Jones as Emma Frost was perfect. All the little tie-ins were good.

I was really disappointed with X3 and Wolverine, and consider X:FC a massive improvement.

I'm the biggest Jean fan ever so I'm a little biased against anything that completely betrays her character icon_razz.gif

And Brett Ratner is still in the top 10 worst working directors.

Havok is in it. That's all I need to convince me to check it out...

Then again, Angel was in X3.

This makes me madd. At the end of X3, Magneto moved the fucking Chess piece! Since then, we've had two tepid lackluster diversions despite the fact that Magneto, who'd been stripped of his powers, moved the fucking Chess piece without touching it in X3!! And, what of Mystique, what's an ex mutant stripper's take home?!! Plus, we know the Phoenix is called the Phoenix because she doesn't know how to stay dead and she can do whatever she wants like bring Scott back!! Who cares about Wolverine's past, we already got filled in on that in X2, and to hell with this teen titan bullshit, we got our fill of mutant teens in X3, get on with the original story!!! ....HARRY UP, before Ian McKellen dies or gives up and tells them to shove it. He's irreplaceable to me because I always did getta kick out of seeing an old queen play one of comic's strongest. :-) You don't do that, give us the gayest comic movie ever: flying the Golden Gate bridge, leather clad lesbian action, huggernaut, queens with wings and then leave us hanging!!??

I can't wait to see it, but I'm not excited to see January Jones as Emma Frost. I feel like she can't quite portray the refined bitchiness that is The White Queen.

I just don't know if I can watch First Class. The casting is meh, the story sounds meh and I DO NOT appreciate the substitution of Emma Frost for Jean Grey. I don't get the loathing of Jean over at the Marvel offices, both comic and studio.

Yeah, she can't. I found her very disappointing but I think it was more the way the character was written than her as an actor. She was inspid and subservient when she should have been haughty and aloof and with an air of superiority.

What The White Queen subservient?! What is wrong with them! Her air of superiority is what made her stand out. She took no prisoners and loved flaunting her sexual appeal.
I will still go to see it, but this is a let down.

Im a HUGE fan of X-men and New Mutants etc..and was so pissed everytime they changed story lines from the comics..
I liked Xmen 1 (even though they changed iceman and rogue to kids), 2 was amazing (even though i thought Haly berry wasnt my 1st choice) and i even liked 3 even though there were a few changes like making it ALL about Logan and Jean when they killed off Cyclops...
But when i heard that the original cyclops, jean grey, ice man etc didnt have roles i was like "whats the point"? If they wanted to make a movie aimed at teens using X-men, why not have made a movie of the New Mutants if you werent gonna use the original storyline/characters..its almost like they are moving further and further away from the comics and Hollywood creating their own version of the Xmen..
In any case, i hope to watch it soon but i know its gonna piss me off...

I want to see it... X3 was the biggest letdown though. Wolverine wasn't THAT bad, so I have a little higher expectations for First Class.

I saw it last night. Thought it was great, but not on par with the first two. Definitely better than X3 and Wolverine though. Personally, I thought the cast was brilliant and met every expectation. Although Michael Fassbender's accent kept changing which annoyed the crap out of me. Kevin Bacon and James McAvoy were probably the standouts.

It definitely wasn't flawless: I thought the pace, particularly at the beginning was a bit too fast and there were probably too many characters introduced at once to get any real sense of character development. Which is disappointing, because I think the relationships between Magneto, Professor X and Mystique especially are all really interesting, but they don't fully develop.

What else is done well (which is either a good or bad thing, depending on what you want) is the whole 60s vibe. It was very colourful, very camp, very sexist, and over the top in a lot of ways. Because of this, it's not the most serious movie. It also brings a tiny bit of Kick Ass to the table, at times making fun of the whole genre.

But on the whole I really enjoyed it - definitely entertaining, a little bit intense, and it builds nicely to a pretty awesome conclusion. I've never really read the comics, but I watched the cartoon when I was a kid, and I could appreciate a lot of the throwbacks to comic book lore.

Sorry for the wall of text - this was officially my first post on RJ.

at first I was pissed they were screwing with characters and timeline especially after the travesty of X Men 3 but I have accepted this movie as a stand alone and now am looking forward to it as such

It probably will not do that well at the box office

I've enjoyed all of the movies just fine, but the first two definitely had the most engrossing storylines and character portrayals.

How can ANYone be against any movie with Hugh Jackman shirtless? They could just film him shirtless, getting sweaty with no dialogue or action and I would pay to see it.
