They are broke because of illegal immigration issues. Social conservatives (of which there are plenty) are just as bad, if not more so, than liberals when it comes to stuff like that. They are one of the states that allows illegal aliens to receive in-state tuition. Pretty unbelievable.

You can talk fiscal conservatism on one end but if you aren't plugging the holes it's all for naught.

Omg there are so many articles and statistics. I don't have too many on hand at the moment but here are a couple articles indicating the fiscal ramifications of illegal immigration, and more importantly the now "legal" immigrants born from illegals who are creating a massive burden on education.

    http://www.dallasnews.com/news/education/headlines/20100314-Number-of-illegal-immigrants-getting-in-9925.ece

One of the big problems is that we simply do not know how many "legal" children of illegal immigrants there are. When people talk about the "burden" illegal immigration is having on America they aren't talking about the actual illegals, they're talking about the offspring who are given education on the backs of the taxpayers who are disproportionately having to educate all of these kids. The education impact of illegal immigration accounts for the majority of costs that are inflicted, not even welfare assistance!

Why would you even need statistics in the first place? Do you actually think that all of the children born to illegals (which makes up a huge portion of new children being born) are not receiving any kind of education or welfare benefits?

Do you really think that because you aren't willing to find the statistics that everything is hunky dory and magically no one is having to pay for all of this?

    Of course it's a crock.
---Regulations keep the corporate crooks from robbing the bank and destroying the planet.
---Low taxes would be great if you could stop ALL Congress members from spending money that they don't have. Republicans are equally guilty.
---Balanced budgets are a thing of the past. You'll never see another one. We can't get the billionaire corporations to pay any taxes. We can't get the wealthy to pay their fair share. We can't get companies to move their factories back to America.

The government has to have income from somewhere. Since the Republicans have destroyed the middle class (where the vast majority of taxes came from, and who spent the most money on goods and services, keeping the economy booming), there isn't enough money even for essential services.

And, the Republicans obsession for killing Medicare and Social Security would simply force Americans to go on Welfare.
