Im kind of scared, i think i may have hurt myself training today

    Today i was training and doing chest, i did my standard 6 warm up sets for bench press, then went up to 365 lbs, as i was coming up i heard a strange crack/ grinding like sound and immediately had my spotter help me get the weight up and rack it

    i noticed i had pain in my shoulder (slightly between my lateral and anterior deltoid) and like on my pec area (in between my biceps, shoulder and pec) it does feel a bit better now but it still feels unusual when i take my shoulder and move it above my head (i just feel it in that area- but it is not terrible- it just feels a little weird)

    do you guys think i should go to an ortheopedic and have this checked out? i can move my arm just fine in any direction.

    I am very freaked out also because i had a torn biceps tendon last year which required surgery (but i know this is nothing like that- everything is in place- when that happened i knew right away what happened)

    I would do something early, even if that is just a few days rest. If you get these things when they happen they are much easier to turn around than if you leave them. Only thing is if you go to your average physio and have full ROM and it doesn´t really hurt all they will say is "rest".

    I´d go for chinese body work personally (if you know of a good person)

    I used to have this problem all through my early twenties. Feels like a blade being inserted in between the muscle fibers. Never figured out what it was. Dumbbells didn't give me the issue. I don't think I have it anymore but I don't know. I've had other issues with that shoulder too. Pinched nerve giving me a fiery sensations down the skin of my left triceps.
    The only thing that I can think of that might be the cause is carrying bags over one shoulder.

    Get it looked at because it could be your rotator cuff, and a tear there tends to get worse over time.

    Your symptons sound very familiar - acromial injury comes to mind, but it could also be a rotator cuff problem. Best to have an ortho check it out, sooner rather than later.

    I'd give it a 24 to 36 hours to see how it feels. Sometimes when using heavy weight on a bench press one will use their shoulders (scapula) to press upward against the bench causing this type of pain. Apply ice is a good therapy to help reduce swelling.

    Just for precaution every time you have an injury you should apply RICE:
    (; For the next 72 hours to prevent inflamation, and if it hurts or the inflamation does not dissapear you should visit a doctor.

    Has this happened to you before?

    You can make an appointment with an ortho and in the mean time rest, ice and elevate. If it gets better in a few days I wouldn't be worried.
