venue35 saidI smoke 2 cigarettes a day so i guess that doesn't make me a smoker. I never smoked untill i turned 35. weird. There is nothing like havinga cigarette in the morning it's very relaxing. But I just can't smoke more than 3 cigarettes a day I just don't like it. How some people smoke over a pack a day is beyond me.
    To each his own.

    just a random question...
How does only 2 cigarettes a day make you a non-smoker?

One of the bigger tropes I've observed on this board is that if you disclose you're a smoke you'll get immediately and viciously harped on.

No I don't do it. I try not to judge people who do but my count is up to watching 4 people I love dearly not be able to enjoy their lives after age 60 because they developed COPD/Emphysema and couldn't walk across the room without getting winded. It doesn't take long for you not to even want to leave the house, especially with the embarrassment of wearing o2 in public.

Also, I've coded a shit ton of people that smell like smoke icon_razz.gif

It doesn't icon_razz.gif Medically you're considered a smoker if you've had one cigarette in the last 6 months.

When I was a mere lad, a buddy and I each stole a pack of cigarettes from our parents and, hiding away in a tree, each smoked our pack of cigarettes. I puked my brains out, never again having the desire nor interest in smoking cigarettes.

    80% of my friends smoke.

    I do not.
I tried it in 2002. Smoked for a pack, and was done.

    Do not smoke weed either.
Not even a fan of the hookah really...

I dont know that it's limited to this board.
I've seen complete strangers harass friends who are smoking.
    It's bizarre.

Random observation: Every guy I've ever dated was a smoker. Not on purpose, just a random trend I noticed.

I don't smoke, never even tried. The only thing I find more repellent than someone smoking a cigarette is someone smoking a cigar. I don't care to be around it, but if someone wants to that's their business. Just be responsible about, don't do it where you're not supposed to and don't throw your butts on the ground.

Former smoker here and hope I never take it up again.

My mother smoked three to four packs a day when I was born and both my sister and I had severe asthma because of it. I spent a lot of my childhood in the hospital in oxygen tents. Oddly enough, my asthma went away when I started smoking in high school. Three of my grandparents died very young because they were heavy smokers. Fortunately, my mother quit and my sister never started smoking.

I quit many times in the past but always took it up again, even after several years. I feel like this time is for good (and the patch really helped a lot). For non-smokers, it's hard to understand the allure and the addiction. Quitting smoking is one of the hardest things someone can do.

    Yeah smokers say that.
Quit masterbating, then I'll be impressed.

edit: This isn't an anti-smokers thing, it's anti-smugness...quitters have this...give me attention because I quit, and then how dare you comment if I start back up again, but you better be there congratulating me when I quite a third, fourth, fifth time...attitude

I tried smoking in the Army when I was 20-21. Hell, they put 3 cigarettes in our C-rats! It was like the normal thing to do, and I was very much into conformity in those days, trying very hard to be a good soldier.

So I'd smoke at the NCO club (for Sergeants), unfiltered Camels, but after a year I found it a waste of my time, and never enjoyable. I suppose I have a gene that immunizes me from nicotine addiction.

Thank gawd! The last thing at 62 i need is smoker's face to make me look even older than I am, nor problems with my lungs. My partner's ex-lover lives just a few miles from us, who has emphysema from smoking, and drags an oxygen tank around with him. The consequences of his smoking will kill him before long.

Yeah, smoke and die prematurely & miserably. What a deal! And jack my own medical costs up with your treatments, as well as clog my access to doctors. Thanks a lot!

OK you got me there - quitting masturbating is much more difficult. I think I made it 10 days once.

In terms of quitting smoking, I didn't tell anyone the last time I quit, not even my partner (of course he eventually figured it out). I still don't talk about it unless someone wants to quit or asks me for advice. If I ever start again, I hope my friends and family kick my ass.

I've seen too many people die from smoking, including one family friend who burned to death because she lit a cigarette even though she was taking oxygen.
