SUMMERSIDE – It took several shots to bring down a bull that led police on an almost two-hour chase through the southern part of this city this morning.

The bull, who for a short time escaped certain death after breaking free from his owners while being off loaded at the city's abattoir, was on the lam for an hour and 40 minutes before he was cornered at the end of Valley Street in Summerside.

Several shots rang out as police took aim at the animal at close range with 12-gauge shotguns loaded with slugs.

Residents of the sleepy neighbourhood, some in their bathrobes, pyajamas and slippers, were on the street, watching from a distance as police finally brought the 1,400-pound animal down.

Comments louann - June 6, 2011 at 11:41:28 Several shots !!!! I believe some firearms training is required of the Summerside Police Force, this lack of skill is pathetic !!!

Laura - June 6, 2011 at 11:41:03 Only on PEI is this a headlining story and an addition to the the job description for police!!

It's a special place! My husband's family is from there (originally from Cardigan), and they still have a place at Lakeside. We have some good friends who live in Charlottetown.

Oh, and I believe elected officials have to on the look-out for a pie in the face.

jprichva saidI didn't know you all had firearms up there.
I thought you just trap them like baby seals and club them.

Our seals are so trendy, we just open a club and let the seals walk into them.icon_biggrin.gif

    Meanwhile... Bullwinkle is dead!!!! icon_eek.gif
