What is it about comfort food that is so.....comforting? Is it all in the mind or do you think there are actually ingredients in the food that set of a pleasureable feeling in our bodies?

I think it is all in the mind myself. Whenever I eat something like Mac & Cheese, it reminds me of a time when I was a kid and I would be helping mom in the kitchen cooking dinner(at that time it was usually Mac & Cheese and hot dogs lol). Ice cream reminds me of going for a walk with my parents and stopping for a softserve cone.

Is it all in the memorys we get? Or the remembered feelings? Or is it all the crap in most of those foods? lol.

I'm not that crazy about traditional "comfort food". My comfort food is CHOCOLATE! Give me one of these and I'm SO happy... (but miserable and wracked with guilt!)

There is a chemical reason why comfort food is so "comforting"

Comfort food is usually foods that are high in either fat or carbohydrates or both

The body is tuned to hold on to calories.... it's nature's way to fend off starvation
high calorie rich foods release a flood of insulin
and this in turn is connected to the release of serotonin
which gives the body that warm fuzzy feeling associated with comfort food
