Funny birthday things

Some US guys here having birthdays recently, or pending, have mentioned their getting a "love note" from AARP as they're turning 50. I got the same thing 12 years ago, a month or so before the day, and wondered how they knew, and could get my mailing address, which was fairly new at that time, and never posted online. US Government collusion?

So today I'm 62 (I actually make the age switch on New Year's Day, feeling that if the Queen of England can have 2 birthdays, so can the queen of Wilton Manors). And here's what I've gotten in the mail in the last few days:

A birthday greeting to me as Bob, but with my partner's last name, from a Canadian pharmacy. I would indeed like to be legally married to him, but I'm not.

An offer for a free cremation. "And many happy returns!"

Offers for medical supplemental plans to my Medicare (and how did they know I'm on Medicare disabled, since my age itself is too young for it?)

"Happy birthday from [our car dealer], come in and have your oil changed!" Mine or the car's?

A dinner offer from Olive Garden restaurant. Now that I might use.

And tons of other greetings & offers from companies, but always with the tagline: "Please notify us if this address is not current." I think that's their real motivation, although I have to wonder -- if the address is wrong, how would I have gotten it?

And so I guess this is a modern birthday in the 21st Century. So lucky I could have lived to see it. icon_razz.gif

We actually went out to Rosie's, where we were comped the meal. And earlier today I had some free drinks at the Alibi. Late this afternoon I changed my blood draw from tomorrow morning to next Monday, so I wouldn't be handicapped. The Olive Garden coupon will be used later this month.

Thanks! My partner is into astrology, but not me. He's always trying to pigeonhole me as a Gemini, but I refuse to go along. Assuming that I am fun (and that's debatable), it isn't because of the date I was born. I'd give most of any credit to my late parents, who were a remarkable combination of seriousness & silliness.
