Of course they would support a Mormon. Mitt Romney is about as squeaky clean of a politician as they come.

Isn't he a bit liberal for you? All that social healthcare and all that?

I don't have an issue with Romney on some social issues, I personally think he is much more progressive than what he let on. On fiscal issues, we may have more disagreements.. but in the end I think he is a reasonable candidate.. certainly not one I'd find an embarassment.

I don't have an issue with his Morman background.

he has about the best chance of any other GOP contender in the field.

That and given the particular unspoken but quite real system of seniority the GOP has observed in the past for the most part, Mitt is most likely "next in line" in much the same was McCain was in 2008.

Personally, I am supporting Ron Paul and John Huntsman.

As you may know Mormons are at best a pseudo-Christian group. Basically the Mormon Jesus is not the eternal God-Jehovah able to save us. So, on a religious basis Mitt Romney will not get the Christian vote.

He's quite a bit further to the left than me, but no one is going to be perfect. We have to nominate someone who can be elected in the general election and I think he can be.

That's also how we got Bob Dole in 1996. If Huntsman doesn't make it this time he's plenty young enough to have it in 2016 or 2020.

If a Jeremiah Wright Christian can make it so can a Mormon.

In my view, all religion is stupid.

The Mormon religion, with its added overlay of stupidity on top of the already-stupid foundation of the Christian religion, is only slightly more stupid than Catholicism, the Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian denominations, etc, etc.

"All religion is bunk." -- Thomas Edison

"The easy confidence with which I know another man's religion is folly teaches me to suspect that my own is also." -- Mark Twain

"What can be asserted without proof can be dismissed without proof." -- Christopher Hitchens

"Consider the Cross -- what calamity that engine of grief has produced." --John Adams, 2nd President (paraphrase)

"The day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus…will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter." -- Thomas Jefferson, 3rd President

"Religion is a crutch for the weak minded." -- Jesse Ventura, would-be President

"I always tell my Christian friends there's not much difference in my religious beliefs and theirs. I just believe in one less god than they do." -- Little Dude With Muscles

One more from Jefferson (he had a lot of good ones about Christianity and religion):

"Question with boldness even the existence of a God -- because if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear."

Great Point! And both Mormon candidates, Romney and Huntsman, are WHITE!

Both Mormons have an approach to government that I call OBAMA LIGHT---the light standing for Light Complexion.

Both Romney and Huntsman saw the need to expand healthcare to be virtually universal.....just like President Obama.

Both are clear on our need to control pollution and greenhouse gases---and support investing in new technologies for 'clean' economic growth....just like President Obama.

But when Romney and Huntsman present President Obama's very same policies, you'll never hear Glenn Beck accuse either of them of "Hating White People".....OR of being a Socialist Muslim.

Here's another good one, the full quote from Edison:

"I have never seen the slightest scientific proof of the religious ideas of heaven and hell, of future life for individuals, or of a personal God. So far as religion of the day is concerned, it is a damned fake... religion is all bunk."

Sorta like Obama's foreign policy looking just about like George W Bush? I don't hear the left screaming much about this.

As I've said, Romney is pretty far to the left of me. I haven't heard enough from Huntsman yet.

No problem however with promoting economic growth through an environmental friendly manner. It’s a matter of degree and reasonableness.
